I went to the download site and downloaded : GPS_18_3_d030324.exe
That gave me two registry files
    1)enableenum.reg
    2)skipenum.geg
I clicked on them and they installed
I restarted the computed and enabled the GPS (OE) in the bios and the cursor goes all over the screen, no control at all.
From reading some posts I assume it is reading the GPS as mouse control. Did I download the incorrect files?
    Model: 18fdazxam
I hate to ask a newby question but I tried to sort it out thru the posts but unless the GPS id disabled my cursor is all over.

    Thank you for any thoughts,

    Fred

Or you can try disabling the "Serial Mouse" under the keyboard/mouse... If that is in the CF-18....

Also... You need to make sure you get the correct GPS fix for the correct model number. (I didn't verify the number you gave... Just saying...)

    The registry patch from Panasonic.

    http://pc-dl.panasonic.co.jp/cgi-bin/itn/toughbook/dl02.cgi?main=5095

This file can be unpacked using winrar in it you find two registry update files you can read these in notepad. I have seen on some pc's these file are not written in the registry. So if you read them and the check an see if they are written correctly is the registry with reg edit.

    Key 1

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\ACPI\PNP0501\1\Device Parameters]
    "SkipEnumerations"=dword:fffffffe

    Key 2

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\ACPI\PNP0501\1\Device Parameters]
    "SkipEnumerations"=dword:00000000

Just a thought you could also try to manually set the com port and or IRQ for the GPS in System Hardware as it might be trying to use the same number as the touchscreen.

    Regards
    Phil

Thanks for the help- I did the "NoSerialMouse" command and solved the problem, but now..... Streets and trips 2009 finds the GPS but won't use it! It requires the lastest type of reciever. Is there a workaround or software that will work with the OE GPS?

What is wrong, is it the baud rate of 4800 not configurable in streets and trips?

the only fix you need to run is skipenum, the other one just negates the needed one. reenable the serial that you disabled and apply the skipenum only, reboot and all should be good

OK,thank you, I did that and now it accepts it but it can't find any sats. In Earthbridge it shows streaming data but no sats on the grid. Antenna bad? It is the stock one.
Well it seems I am gaining on it at least! :))

If it's the factory GPS, you may need to let it sit outside for 20-30 minutes to get the first fix. this will allow the receiver to download an updated almanac. The almanac tells the receiver where the satellites are, which is required to get a position fix. Once the almanac is downloaded, future fixes will be much faster.

make sure you have Earthbridge (or some other GPS application) open, as the gps receiver is turned off if the port is closed.

Also... I recall reading somewhere that prior to installing the reg patches... That you must first go into the BIOS and turn off the GPS... Then apply the patch... Then enable it again in the BIOS... I am almost certain I read that on a Panny site...

Hi, thank you, I had it outside for a half hour but no joy it is still the same, except when I brought it in the mouse was all over the place again so I redid the NoSerialMouse script and that stopped it and now that is normal. There is data showing but very short and fast scroling in earthbridge. It does show my location, sort of, it says I am about 200 miles west of equatorial Africa in the ocean!!! What the heck it that?? I am seriously befuddled by this nonsense! :))

200 miles west of equatorial Africa is zero latitude and longitude. Sounds like it is seeing the GPS, but just has no lock.
do the lines of scrolling data look like
    Code:
    $GPGGA,012237.00,0000.00000,N,00000.00000,W,1,11,1.05,0000.0,M,-21.7,M,,*52
if so, you are definitely seeing the GPS data, and you just need to let it search the sky to get a lock. you might want to try standing the laptop on it's side, so the GPS antenna is pointed up.

It sounds to me like the GPS engine is working fine, but the antenna is NOT. I would take a closer look at the antenna, its connections, and the wire itself and look for any kinks or creases. You can also ohm it out at both ends to ensure continuity. I would guess that is the problem. Do you happen to have a spare antenna you could connect to just test? If not, I have a couple spare Jim Gray active ones you could use to just hook up to test. Let me know.

I got a copy of VisualGPS and left it in the middle of the yard for an hour and a half but still no lock so I will look at the antenna next. Is there a resistance or just continunity?
Thanks for the offer I will get back to you.

OK I removed the antenna and I have continunity between the board connector and the metal body of the antenna itself, the first visable stainless rectangle that has a tape/sponge square glued to it. . it is held in by the sponge/sealer under the stainless ground plane piece so I have not removed it frm the outer body. Wiggleing the wire does not interrupt the circuit. Is there a way to test / check it other than that?

Check your connections and for any kinks or bends in the wire. GPS leads don't like to be bent sharply or twisted to much.

I noticed on the GPS board there are two antenna connections one in the center and one on the inner end of the board. Does it matter which is used?
