Recently my CF18 does the blue screen crash randomly (with no action on my part) it can go for weeks then it does it. Hot or cold, no difference. I used the microsoft details about the crash but it always says it is unable to determine the cause. No new software and only updates from microsoft (XP Pro SP3) It started this about 6 months ago. My local pc expert passed away and I have not found anyone who has a clue.
    Any ideas very welcome,
    Thank you, Fred

The first place I would check is the ram. Memory errors can be very random.

Your problem sounds familiar and if it is anything like what we have experienced it will only get progressively worse leading to complete failure. We tried all the usual fixes ie, remove/subsitute ram, hdd, bios battery, reset bios etc. I had mentioned all this in an earlier post on CF-18 failure modes. I don't know your model number, but from our experience the 1.2g (Mk4 & 5) models are the most unreliable of all the CF-18 models.
