Blimey, they use strong stuff for these don't they! Is the touchpad really that likely to fall off without completely covering the back of the pad with sticky stuff? ;)

Only half an hour with a heat gun (wife's hair-dryer?) and prying with a metal spudger to get the 'new' one out of it's donor without bending or slicing through it, and another half hour to get the damaged one out of the recipient, and then half an hour soaking the glue off with IPA and more scraping before swapping them over ...

I now have a working touchscreen AND touchpad for less than £90 total, and the donor came with a carry strap and port cover that was missing too, so I'm rather pleased with myself :D

As is usual it's easy the third time you do it.

    Good show!

There are a couple of sources for replacement double sticky. Shawn has the address. :D 3M products...they come in different thicknesses.

For anyone reading this you want a wide stiff sharpish blade and patience. Then a watchmaker's glass for messing with the fpc's. Don't go fast. The adhesive gives way in it's own sweet time. So far I usually stretch the palm rest out of bounds for what I consider right. Sloooowwww might save it.

    Again mate, good show. Fun..hey?

Another thing is to have a replacement palm rest cover available. Covers a multitude of dings.

    Jeff...been there...

I decided not to tape them back in, just in case I need to do it again ;)

There was enough sticky residue left even after scraping with the IPA to hold the pad down, but still let it be lifted without as much effort.

    Wallace -

Remember that the adhesive ring needs to have NO voids in it to preserve the water-tightness of the outer shell. It's not put there just to p!ss you off; that's merely a fun side-effect. ;)
