I've seen different answers on this.
Some say that the screen is 1000 nits with no ambient light and some say 500 nits. Can one of you Toughbook gurus give me the definitive pls?

Thanks for your reply.
Exactly my point though. I'd seen the Panasonic spec sheet but there are several more reviews and other sources as well as sellers of MK5s that quote 1000 nits. This Toughdepot one quotes 1200 nits https://www.toughdepot.com/panasonic-tougbook-cf-19-specs.html#specs
This Panasonic spec sheet for the MK6* says "1000 nits without ambient light assistance. Up to 6000 nit in direct sunlight" ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/toughbook/specsheets/TB-19_ss.pdf
..and this Panasonic spec sheet says "up to 500cd/m² transmissive and6.500cd/m² reflective brightness" http://www.panasonic.co.nz/media/736228/cf-19mk6_spec_sheet_nz.pdf as the mk5 link in Shawns's post.
* I can't find the equivalent mk5 spec sheet -
The spec sheet I linked is for the mk5.
Ignore sellers and go with the spec sheets. -
Yes - I mentioned your mk5 link in my reply.
The two mk6 spec sheets I linked to are both panasonic produced too. One mentions 1000 for mk6 and the other 500 for the same mk6?Last edited: Mar 19, 2018 -
The nit did change between mks.
Early models use 1000nit led backlit panels
Later models use a 500nit led backlit panel. This is a different technology though.
The later models use a lower nit backlight but the use a reflective panel inside the LCD panel.
The reflective panel uses existing sunlight to increase the LCD brightness up to a theoretical 6500 nits.
From the photos in the thread I linked to, you can see that the late style panels are MUCH more effective.
The unit on the left has the new style reflective technology with the "lower" 500 nit backlight.
I reversed the last 2 images so the later mk / LCD was always on the left/
Thanks to BarrMaley for the photos.

Excellent thanks for the detailed info and the pics.
So just to check - the only 1000nit versions are the mk3 and mk4? -
this is a good page

Kardan and toughasnails like this. -
Thanks Shawn.
The page lists the mk3 as 1000 nits and the mk4 as 1000 nits (LED). Does that mean that the mk3 is CCFL backlit?Last edited: Apr 11, 2018 -
I have a very low hour Mk2 and a Mk5, the difference is quite apparent even next to a Mk4 I had.

I dont understand..
The page I posted shows 1000nits or greater for all units mk3 and above.
Ive lost my wits with all this concern over nits. All the stress might give me zits on my t*ts.BaRRmaley likes this. -
As i mentioned above the page only shows (LED) for mk4 and up...
I think User32 understood my question. My reply to him that you quoted (quote since removed) was to this..Last edited: Apr 11, 2018 -
CF-19 mk1 2 3 are ccfl backlights. mk3 was 1000nit (doubtful they are this bright any longer due to age) mk4 5 6 7 8 are LED backlights with mk4 1000 nit mk5 6 7 8 are hybrid backlights (transflective) with 6000 - 6500 nit brightness
-
Still confused...
CF19 MK5 500 nits or 1000 nits
