Looks great Shawn, nice and clean. Now do you remember the size of them because I just know you are going to be asked
-
Yes, I was planning on posting the sizes.
Base screws are M2 x 6mm
GPS screws are M2 x 8mm
Antennae cover screws are M2.5 x 5mm
Lid screws are M2 x 4mm
Hinge screws are M3 x 8mm
Hinge cover screws are M2 x 4mm
Hand strap screws M3 x 8mm
Keyboard holder screws are M2 x 4mm
Door hinge screws are M2.5 x 3 mmonirakkiss and Alecgold like this. -
I used to do that to all my CF-29s and CF-30s when I had my shop set up! The screws on the top always seem a bit buggered on these models so I would clean out the recessed areas an put in shiny new SS hex heads. On the early CF-29s... I even would put a small drop of red or blue enamel in the bottom of the hex head for extra pizazz!
-
Reminds me of old-school hot rodding!

Did you buy the screws online or from a local hardware store. I was going to check Ace hardware today to see if they had any
-
Nice work Shawn!
Could we add the dimensions of the screws to some sticky somewhere!? Useful info! -
I bought the screws from fleabay. MUCH cheaper.
180 in an assortment of M2 for less than $15.00 free shipping from China.
M3's were a similar price
It is stickied over on TBT. -

I would like to do the base and door screws...maybe all the port covers too.
-
The door and port cover screws are coming. I am using button head hex socket screws for them. The head is shorter and smoother. The hex socket screws would rub on the desktop as they are taller than the rubber feet.

That is what I was wondering too. I am going to check a few places today.
-
I'll get you my sources..Just can't right now. as I am at work. Typing on a C5 without a keyboard.

The tiny screws are hard to source. hobby shops have them, but they are pricey compared to fleabay from China.
I will probably do my CF30 next... -

I think I just Googled the metric size followed by "stainless steel hex head" and found several places to order from. Local RC places can have them but they usually have just the black oxide finished ones.
THINK about the screws you replace. A lot of these are flush fit and will doink out and snag stuff. About the only ones safe to replace are the top ones. If you replace the port cover latches you WILL hate yourself later.
I can't tell you the literal POUNDS of LCD screws I have thrown away as I have replaced most of them! -

And I will again suggest my source: Bolt Depot - Nuts and Bolts, Screws and Fasteners online
CAP -
Capt,
I checked them out. They don't list anything in M2 or M2.5 in the button head.
https://www.boltdepot.com/Metric_socket_button_head_Stainless_steel_18-8.aspx
They do have the M2 and M2.5 in socket heads

Well... looks like my return to the RC Modeling hobby will yield some side benefits. I've been buying from these guys for a while now:
RTL Fasteners - Hobbies, Radio Control, ( R/C or RC ), locknuts, metric screws, servo screws, socke
They've jumped into that niche market to fill the void for RCers who can't afford to spend $6 for 4 pieces from Du-Bro. They have a very broad assortment of black oxide finished metric down to 2mm in socket and button head, as well as socket and button head self-tapping (or sheet metal) screws in many different sizes. The part I like is they offer a small pack for a few dollars, or a bulk pack for a few dollars more in nearly everything they sell.
They're almost always offering a special of some sort; it pays to be on their mailing list. I'll buy master kits when they're on 1/3 - 1/2 off for the Holidays; but you guys won't like those assortments much as they have lots of nuts to match the machine screws.
They also have lots of SS fasteners; anywhere you can use a socket head screw they've got one, or one you can cut down to the perfect size: RTL Fasteners - Hobbies, Radio Control, ( R/C or RC ), locknuts, metric screws, servo screws, socke: Stainless Metric Socket Heads
I do still shop them against fleaBay though; you'll often find "salvage resellers" offering really great prices on random quantities of specialty fasteners; I just bought these:
Metric Button Head Cap Screw Stainless M3X16 mm Pkg of 25 RC Cars Trucks | eBay
and these:
Socket Head Cap Screw Stainless M2 0 45 x 8 mm Long RC Car New Bag of 100 | eBay
for a micro-quad build I'm doing.
Also, the ProHold Ball-socket drivers they sell are just 6 kinds of awesome; though no matter what they say, you CAN bugger up the tip on the smaller ones by trying to break free really tight screws at an angle. Use a little common sense, people.
RTL Fasteners - Hobbies, Radio Control, ( R/C or RC ), locknuts, metric screws, servo screws, socke: ProHold Balldrivers/Hex Keys
The fact they HOLD a screw in place, even at an angle, and AT THE CORRECT ANGLE to get them started, makes them a joy to use. And the best part... because the retention is mechanical, not magnetic, they work on SS fasteners too.

thanks ...
"hex socket head screws"
i know the style by "cap screw" .
i seen the in/lb torque driver .
i have been showing a couple of students how to gauge torque by feel .
i let one of them use the "two fingers" method when tightening down the pan bolts on the automatic transmission on my pontiac .
and wouldn't you know it ... the next day i found a small torque wrench that would do the job nicely .
(the units available are designed for bigger work) -
