I am working on a CF19 that had a 2 antenna Wifi setup...I installed a Intel 4965n that had the option of 3 antennas..

I discovered the CF19 has a WWAN antenna mounted in the area beside the LCD. I considered the possibility of removing the WWAN antenna and replacing it with the WLAN antenna.......

Once I looked at the cable routing I decided to avoid rerouting the cable..So my plan B was to replace the antenna itself by soldering the board from a donor CF18 WLAN antenna.. Since the antennas are from opposite sides of the LCD they are reversed..I had to do some trimming and resolder the coax to the WLAN antenna board in a slightly different location..

Yes the 3rd antenna is a big improvement.

A nice example of utilizing surplus equipment instead of throwing the check book at it. I did a similar thing with a CF-28 one time. Had to clip the end for a good fit.

    Anyway, consider this a LIKE.

I always assumed the length/resistance of a antenna was quite important to the performance? Didn't that change by adding an extra antenna?

Always nice to read these kind of mods here!

The few inches we are talking about here won't make a big difference..
My 3rd antenna is in the same location as the stock 2 antennas, (the side of the lid). so they all have the same resistance.

I wantend to say electrical resistance, the 50Ohm orso. But if it works :D

We may have a communication error..Let's see if I can explain.....

The length of the cable is the same as the 2 stock antennas (same resistance).
It is the stock cable so it's the same, just a different color.
The antenna PCB is for the WLAN from a CF18, so it is the correct length (resistance) for the frequency.
The Intel 4965N has 3 antenna connections on it originally. It is designed for 3 antennas, but will work with 2 antennas just not as well..

Actually when talking about antennas, I believe the correct term is impedance and not resistance...I was not sure of the difference until I just looked it up..

As far as speed goes, I am getting 144 which is identical to what I get with my Intel 5300 in my CF52..The best I got with 2 antennas is 72..

I do have a Intel 5300 here that I will throw in sometime just to try for myself........The 5000 series uses less power and connects better.

ooh, oke, I was thinking you looped the third antenna with another one, my mistake.
Why the three antenna's? Mimo/higher throughput speed?
I never realized there is so much difference between (intel) wifi-cards?!

Short answer is MIMO.....Yes higher throughput speed..
If you have dual band router and card., you can really improve things..
It makes a noticeable difference even on single band only though.

Yes there is quite a difference in cards. It gets challenging when Panasonic only recognizes certain cards in the BIOS. I would rather have the 5300 or 6300, but the BIOS won't recognize them.

When I interfered in this conversation before..... when I said clipped the antenna...I held it up to the light and made sure I was not clipping anything important. Just shortened the green part a tiny bit.

Clarification and confusion start and end with the same letters.

    Carry on.

Yep, that was the thread I started. While I'm sorry you had the same results I did, I'm glad you verified my results. I wish someone could make a revised bios to get rid of the apparent whitelist. People have done it for other brands. It's strange that they seem to whitelist WLAN cards, but not GPS or WWAN cards. Thank god they included the N version of the 4965 card and not just the crippled version.
