CF19 mk2 WWAN enabled??

Hello

I'm wondering if anyone can help me work out if my CF19 is WWAN enabled?

Model CF-19FHGAXAE

There is an option for it in the bios which is "enabled", there is also the sim card slot in the back. I don't seem to be abled to find anything relating to it in the device manager?
I've tried reading the model on the CF19 wiki site, but according to that it only has 1GB of ram? When windows says there is 2GB. So not sure what to make of that? The US may code theirs differently to the euro model? Or mine has been upgraded? Its also got a GPS dongle in the side of it which i've never bothered with?
I'm running W7sp1. I don't think there any offical drivers for W7 running on the mk2? but I followed the procdure and installed the vista drivers , which work fine!

Any help please....

 

We need to know which module you are using. Might I suggest this for the WWAN DIP switch settings: Index of ./CF-19 Stuff/

Be sure that the battery is REMOVED and that the unit is UNPLUGGED before switching the 4 little switches.

Also, if the WWAN doesn't show up in the BIOS, it won't show up in windows under device manager so don't even try

Thanks for the speedy reply, I've removed the bottom panel and the module matches the pictures "CF-19 Sierra Wireless (EVDO) WWAN Dip Switch Settings" (The 2nd lot pictures in the list)
Shall I adjust the switches to on,off,off,off? as advised?

The WWAN setting DID show up in the bios before but not in device manager.

Any more advice would be great.. As you've noticed I am a little new to all this so please be patient... Thanks again

 

As long as the WWAN shows up in the BIOS, I would NOT NOT NOT touch the dip switches! Leave them the way they were! I was under the impression that it wasn't showing up in the BIOS.

From there, you need to make sure that the Wireless Switch Utility is installed! If it isn't, that's an issue! Make sure it's installed and go into it (just left click on it once) and make sure that "Wireless WAN ON" is checked. This utility sleeps next to the clock in the lower right corner at the bottom.

From your model number "X" indicates "Wireless Ready" which means you have all the components necessary to use WWAN with the exception of the WWAN Modem!

If your in Welsh Wales, you could be trying to use a WWAN Modem that works on a different frequency.

I've found the option you were referring to but its shaded out and is fixed in the OFF position. I checked all the drivers, which all seemed present and good.
From when i removed the plate I'm assuming I was looking at an Sierra Wireless (EV-DO) WWAN card? which you showed above.
I think the drivers for this may be missing? I've checked their website for drivers, but "Sierra EV-DO" is listed many times.. Is there anyway of determining the model?

i was Thinking much the same with the "X" in the model no. Before I pulled the bottom access panel off. Now I'm not so sure? As I think the board with the switches on is a Sierra Wireless WWAN card? Just need to locate the model number now?

 

What I actually meant was the WWAN Modem & the additional ram have been added after your unit left the factory. By who?

Has the correct Modem for your location been installed.

Is the hardware wireless switch turned on. It's inside the SD door on the left side.

 

GOOD CALL on this... Be sure to check it! If it is indeed on, then you need to determine if the card is Sprint or Verizon (what are you using anyways?!?!? If it's EVDO then it HAS TO BE EITHER SPRINT OR VZW).

If its Sprint, get the software and drivers from HERE: Index of ./CF-30 Stuff/CF-30 XP Drivers/Sprint Internal Card/ - SCM3.3.12.0.zip (Yes, I know it says CF-30, but if it is in fact Sprint, this driver/software WILL WORK)

If it's Verizon, get the software and Drivers from HERE: Index of ./VZAccess Manager/ - VZAccess-6.2.2.zip FILE

P.S, might I ask??? Is the driver installed? what do you see in device manager (Right click my computer -> properties -> system tab -> device manager. Check under Networking devices for something related to Sierra Wireless MC57xx devices... Or do you see a yellow bubble with an exclamation point in it?? What does it say?

I have a mate who works for BT, so today i pulled the access panel off his, basically my laptop is ready for a WWAN card but the actually card is missing.

Someone above did mention, it could be the case. Doh...

Which would explain why it doesn't show up in device manager, But the board is enabled in the bios.

Anyway, what would be the best card to order for it, and any idea where to get one in the UK? I can't really be bothered in ordering from Hong Kong as it could spend weeks in customs!

I believe that there may have been a card in it. The dip switches were set for that card. If there is no card the dip switches should be set to "none". If the dip switches are set for any card, even if not present, WWAN will show in the bios. Since you have a UK model your switches may be labeled WWAN1, WWAN2 and WWAN3. I'm not sure of a card to recommend or the proper switch settings. Maybe forum member Pinecone can recommend a card.

The image you uploaded is the exact one thats inside my machine.
I expect there was a card in it at some point, as the ram has also been upgraded to 2meg. I have no history of who has played with it, which is a shame.

You can buy this model with a card, but I have know idea what spec/make they use from factory? There is a lot of choice.
I will keep searching.

Cwmdylan (I'm not sure you can get a more Welsh name.... ) - any EV-DO card will not work in Europe at all as we have many differences in the mobile network setup to the US.

A Novatel EU870D was the OEM supplied 3G card for the CF-19mk2 in Europe, so you can get that and you should have little problem in getting it working. It supports up to 3.6mbps HSDPA so it's not exactly slow.

Gobi 1000 and 2000 modules will also work in Europe (they are used on CF-19mk3 and mk4 respectively), but I'm not sure on the backwards compatibility of fitting them in to a CF-19mk2 - maybe someone else can advise here. I don't mod at all

You can pick those cards up on eBay at reasonable prices. If you decide on going for a Gobi card, I recall forum member ohlip fitting a 1K in a CF-19mk1 some time ago you can use the NBR Google search to track his thread down.

I ordered an "Unlocked Sierra Wireless MC870 3G GPS WWAN Mini Card" Off Ebay cost me £30 including postage! Another £6 for a Three network pay as u go simcard (1gig download vaild for 30days). Took me 10mins to fit and another 10 to install the software provided with the card, and I'm over the moon to say it works perfectly

Not sure what the max speed on the card is, I tested it in the house and got just over 2meg but the signal isn't great so will get out and about and test again!

Thats odd in your third post you mentioned you removed the cover and that the Sierra Wireless modul was there same as in the pics on the thread????? Did that card just vanish?????

You can just pull out the Hard-Drive caddy and look inside the hole towards the back and see if there is a wwan card living inside your 19. Don't have to remove the cover then A tool like everest ( there are others even freeware ) will easily tell you all the hardware thats inside your machine without have to turn a single screw.

 

Yeah but the original Sierra Wireless card from the third post was an EV-DO card which is more useful as a tea stirrer in this country.

 

Its not much more useful over here, either.

EV-DO not useful? Must be nice to live in large areas with faster service. Sprint has had EV-DO here for some years and AT&T just went to it this year!!

Europe had (and still does) GPRS service, and then hopped straight to UMTS. We've been progressively bolting on each new HSPA upgrade over the years - I can get 3.6 or 7.2mbps HSDPA in pretty much every town or city in the UK.

 

When I removed the panel, it was identical to the picture shown above. Thing is, there is no WWAN card actually fitted into the board in the pic, all it shows is that the Toughbook was WWAN enabled and ready to have a card fitted!! Not helped by the facted I didn't really know what I was looking at?!
