Last time I looked for some 28 drivers for another member that were for the Mk2 or Mk1 I noticed a LOT of the older drivers were gone on the official Panasonic site.

Well Modly's site seems to be vacant so I'll have to look in the archives. Don't get your hopes up too high, I don't recall ever running Win98 on a CF-27 so I may well not have saved those drivers. I'll look.

Thank you all, but i've some problem here, i havn't the cd reader, just floppy, so i installed win98 directly in the HD by another computer, with a usb adapter, i don't know if problems are related to this type of installation. Now the usb port won't work at all, no usb pen (wintricks universal driver for usb pen on 98) no usb mouse, nothing. So what can be done to make it works ? Under device manager there's an alert under "USB" but i can't fix it.

Do you suggest a fresh installation from a cd drive ?

Whenever I install Windows 98SE on a laptop, i also install the Windows 98SE USB Mass Storage Device Drivers,

they can be downloaded from this website:

Windows 98SE USB Mass Storage Device Drivers

I always use the nusb33e driver package, and most USB devices work okay.

Well there's a problem, i bought this machine on ebay and i don't know if it was rebuilded or is "new" so i can't know if the number under the chassis is right, but give it a try... CF-27EJ6K3EE

On the motherboard the graphic chip is marked NeoMagic 256av NM2200, i read somewhere that NM2200 is mounted on mk3 model, but the clock speed of my TB is 300Mhz (that should be mk2) the processor is marked 333/256 so it should be 333Mhz 256kb L2 cache, so... i'm not sure what mk is this.

PS My mobo have no VGA connector on the back, just serial and parallel ports. The new chassis i bought (the original was broken) have some little differences, the speaker is not on the front but on the bottom, and in the back cover there's no room for RJ11 connector but what seem to be a VGA "hole", perhaps for different mobo versions.

You can find the model number for your mother board, we don't care about the case, on your old case or on the first page of your bios. Check and get back to me. Any chance you can use Win 2000? The W95 and W98 drivers might be tough.

If you look at the BIOS screen, then you can also find out what version your CF-27 is.

No i take a look at the bios but there isn't the model number, only the bios version (V2.10L13B) so can we extrapolate it from the internal components ?
As said before, 333/256 processor, detected speed of 300Mhz, 64MB onboard, NeoMagic 256AV NM2200 GPU... Ther was a daughter board (that i removed) with GSM modem and 56k modem... 12.1" screen with 800x600 resolution...

About the system, i'm sorry but i need 98, these applications won't run on win 2k.

Have you checked this out yet http://toughbook.wikispaces.com/CF-27

    MK2 has the NM256AV Graphics chip , 300 CPU , 64/192?/320 Memory and 12.1 LCD
    MK3 has the NM2200 Graphics chip , 333 CPU , 128/256 Memory and 13.3 LCD

Also I noticed the Dimensions are bigger on the MK3 and 4

That is very strange, the physical dimensions are mk1 or mk2 (58mm instead of 66mm) but the chip inside says 333/256 and NM2200, but the speed on bios is 300... Is it possible that someone have reflashed a mk2 bios on a mk3 machine ? As soon as i can, i should post some photos of the inside, just to take a look.

Ok, take a look at these photos, the qulity is not that great cause the phone camera, ok and cause the photographer hands, well...
    f1427072.jpg f1430464.jpg f3159936.jpg f3162688.jpg f3163264.jpg f3172800.jpg

In one of the shots you can barely see the GPU that is marked:
    NeoMagic
    MagicMedia256av
    NM2200...
    ...1997

In another shot you can see the CPU clearly marked:
    L035A803 SL32S
    KC 333/256
    INTEL'98

So i think that we can make an idea just based on the date of the components, if we know in which year the mks comed out.

Well we all know panasonic does slow these Toughbooks down some so they will not overheat so maybe that is why it shows 300 and not 333 in the bios...just saying

Mhh i think you are right about that, so what can it be ? I think mk2 at this point, isn't it ? Measured 58mm high, 300Mhz, the only strange thing is the gpu marked NM2200, do you think that i can try with these drivers ?

PS i have bought a cd reader to fit in the media bay, so i can do a normal installation of win98 when it comes home, i still have the original disk he he.

I think my model is a mk2, if you have some update, send me a link please. Is there a problem if the model isn't mk2 ? I risk to brick the laptop or can i reflash the old rom in any way ? Have you the stuff to flash the rom ? I have the floppy unit so i should be able to do the job.

Hi all, optical unit's arrived, but it's almost impossible to install win98 on this machine, no drivers or lots of drivers but none good for it, it wouldn't accept any of the 98 video driver, just a very old win3.1 driver worked putting the resolution to 800x600 but with other obvious errors.
No usb support at all, so anyone have a link to a due-to-its-old-free recovery for mk2 of win98 for this machine ?
PS 98 gave BSOD on installation ! only selecting the "laptop" features made it work.

    Update

I tried to install win ME and it works, recognize all peripherals and install the right driver directly from the cd, the only problem is that win ME is a lot more unstable than 98 and does not support real dos mode that i need for some specific application, i also tried to load the ME drivers on 98 it seem to work but when rebooted the system is again driverless, in addition to this win98 says that there's a IRQ conflict between the graphic card and something else, but looking at the IRQ manager, there's nothing... very frustrating...
