I installed Windows XP on one of my old CF27's-it works pretty well, but the battery refresh utility doesn't work (I downloaded it from Panasonic Canada)-is there a battery refresh utility that will work on a CF27 running Windows XP? or not, one of my batteries in need of a refresh!
    Thanks a bunch

upgraded to a CF29 I got from Gork! a few months ago, 1.5 gb of ram, internal wi-fi, just love it. You would wonder why I still use a CF 27 sometimes....can't bring myself to get rid of or retire it.

I'm using a CF-27 as my main computer right now. Everything else has died on me over the last year, but this thing couldn't be killed with a bazooka. It's like one of those psychos in the horror movies. I love it.

As for the refresh utility, the one I have has to run from DOS. It didn't do me any good, as my battery is dead.

If you have a floppy or CD, just download an image and make a DOS boot disk. Boot into DOS, and run the app.

    Love my 27.

It's a mixture of both, but a bunch of off road hours. Way too many going the wrong way hours.

Did you try brecal.exe from your c:\Util folder?

What is this brecal.exe? Any chance there's a spot to download it online? I've changed the OS on my system so many times, I honestly don't even remember what it came with. The original software is long since gone.

brecal.exe is the battery refresh/recalibrate utility. You down load it from one of the Panasonic sources listed in the stickies.
EDIT: Just looked in the 27 archives, I don't have it but it occurs to me (it's been a while since I sold my last 27s to Dwight) that the battery refresh may be in the bios similar to the CF-28.

I was wondering since Dwight has XP loaded whether he didn't have the file already. He could do a search for brecal. Whether or not it works on a CF-27 is the question. One way to find out right Dwight?
Cap, I think on the CF-28 the calibration utility in bios is on the first bios page near or at the bottom. Just looked...it's on the "main" page at the bottom on the 28 I have.
Wes, You might try the search too. It's a small utility tucked away in the Util directory along with drivers and other components.
UAYOR I have not tested this so use at your own risk.

Just now got back to replies (did I start something??) downloaded the brecal utility, will try it tomorrow night after work. Oh yeah, I had downloaded the battery utility on the panasonic web site, the one for a cf27E, but when trying to use it, a little screen with a command prompt comes up but dissapears after a split second. Not compatible with XP I suppose as this unit originally had Win. 98 or maybe 200 on it.
Will post results, and this unit is one of the ones I got from Capt. Dogfish!

Tried to use brecal.exe on the cf 27, it gave me a message "not for this computer" ran the bat.ref utility on the cf27 with Win. 2000, and I got a command prompt screen for a split second, the I brought up the command prompt, typed in c:\util\battref \g and nothing happened.
If this utility is in dos, is using the command prompt the proper way to get into dos?

    Clueless.

You need to make an MSDOS boot disk using a floppy disk. Here's a link about it: How to create a boot disk. It's a lot easier to do this from Windows 95 or 98 than with Windows 2000 though.
