Hello, my cf28's backlit lam is going down and i'm planning to change it with a stripled of white led, but before i open it, do you know what's the measures of the space under the screen, where is the original lamp housed, i think that it should be about 2 or 3 mm, do you know ?

Is it easy to do this LED fix, or do you have to be a pro-expert in hardware modifications ? Oh, and if you replace the CCFL with LED, is it better for the battery to last longer ?

It depend on ur skills :) , for me it is an easy task. Small mechanic, the principles of optic and electronic and the usage of an soldering iron and an multimeter should be a hobby and u need to be patient and organized. ;)
LEDs needs less current/power, if they have the same brightness like the original used CCFL.

Ok, i'm working on it, today i removed the original lamp (without brocking it) and made place to housing the leds.
I bought from a chineese shop (here very cheap) 36 leds in smd format, it made a beautiful light, using only 200mA counte the about 1A of the ccfl, and it's directional, so it should be better, and of course tougher than a glass lamp.

Great job! That's a fine mod I'd love to try someday. Does it have better colors now? The 12.1" transflective screens are known for having washed-out colors without much red etc. Do the bright LEDs help the color balance?

No, not very much at least, the problem is that the transflective panel, block some portion of the red emission of the lamp, so for a good balance you should put a led that have a reddish filter on it, but it's very hard to find and much more hard to find the correct ratio of filtering.

It just made a brighter image, and a more crisp white, anyway i'm not satisfied of the result, in particular in the bottom margin of the screen, you can see the spottish effect of the led, i think that some kind of diffusing media should be used to diffuse the light in a better way.

I had used an harder plastic foil from an envelope which I (my girlfrind) maked milky with sandpaper to create an diffuser strip in front of the leds.
