Hi everybody. Im cutting my teeth into the world of toughbooks. A friend gave me a working CF-28, but it needs a new battery. I bought a cheap one on ebay. Plugged it in, and it went to 100% I used it and it lasted two days on and off. But now that I'm charging it it'll take about 12 hours to go 40 percent, then it starts flashing red. I take the battery out, put it back in, and it seems to start charging. IDK if it just needs a few cycles to break in, or if its a bad battery.

Anyone know of any good sources to get new batteries?

    Thanks

    Tyler

    Tyler... Welcome to the forum!

Yes... The CF-28 batteries are OLD! You can try to use the battery recalibration tool in the BIOS to charge it and discharge it.

Click F2 at boot and navigate throught the tabs. You will see a Battery Recalibration entry... Click on that to recalibrate it.

The battery may soon be toast or it may pop back somewhat. It's all kind of luck of the draw.

    Thanks!

I've got it doing the battery refresh now. 23hrs in and its only made it to 75% Im gonna let it get to 100 if it ever does, and drain it down again, and see if it helps. I did it with the OEM battery, but it only lasts an hour or so. In my time lurking on here, I've read good reviews of battery universe, so when I got the cash, I may look into one from there. Or just hold off till I have the money, and get me a 19, or newer model.

Looks to be some great info on here. Im enjoying all the reading I have ahead of me!

Give "boomtown" a shout. As of yesterday he had three CF-28 OEM batteries left. I have one from him but haven't charged it yet as the 28 needs a mobo. They look newer than some of the old stock out there....different color yellow tape. He had pretty good success with the ones he used. Just ask.
He may be listed in BST a couple weeks ago.
If you go Battery Universe tell Steve I sent you if you want. Good guy.

Jeff...and welcome to the forum... :)
