The oldest of our Toughbooks has thrown a wobbly, in that it just won't powerup. There is no charger light when the adapter is plugged in and the ON switch has no effect. The battery is OK.
The only clue is that the screen hinges are extremely loose and I suspect that
    the problem lies here.
Has anyone got any idea of a. how to dismantle the hinges and b. what the fault might be? Is there a hidden switch?
I've read the FAQ on keyboard changing, but it doesn't help in getting the hinges apart.
    Any suggestion welcome.

Thanks, Stiffnecked. I have the users and technical manual, but this is the one I really needed.

Since Stiff...give you a link how to disassemble the unit probably you are already done that. There are two posible cause of hinges that has a loose srew on it either on the LCD front bezel or on the base. Retighten all srews on that area. With regards to not powering up, we need a coplete datail. Is the LED light for battery charging lights, or is it totaly dead either on AC adapter plug on? If that so you probably have blown fuse on the main power supply circuit board. Let us know the complete detail.

Thanks, guys. The disassembly habndbook has been invaluable.
The loose cover is due to a broken hinge- I'm still looking for a replacement.
The power fault was simple, the F4 6.3a fuse has blown, and I have a replacement smt fuse on order.
    This is a great site.

I've got a hinge you can have for shipping. It matters which model CF-28 you've got as there is a slight difference between the marks. Let me know.

Sidney... First of all... Welcome to the forum.

Second... You CAN use a regular Buss type fuse as a replacement. Make sure that it is the same type (Volts/Amps) and that you cover it in heat shrink tubing before soldering it on the mobo. I have done this many times and it always works like a charm! There is more than enough space in the body of the laptop.

Are you sure you can find a replacement hinge in India? Are the parts readily available?

What do you mean by boot disk?
The disk in question must have a way of partitioning and formatting your hard drive I would think
When you load w2000 or xp ,those disks will partition and format the disks
Oh and look in the bios and see if the bios lists the hard drive

It is one of two things.... Bad drive or incorrect assembly. Double check that the HD connector isn't upside-down...
