If you have a removable ram installed, take it out and try to boot it up again without the ram.

Memory is the most likely culprit as Ohlip indicated, but if not the beeps are BIOS codes and should have a pattern. At least the number of beeps gives an indication of what is wrong. Count the beeps and listen as some beeps are long and some short (kind of like Morse code). Post back what you hear.

Bios battery, and not being used for a while
Might have to plug it in
See if you can get into bios ( F2)
    Reset to defaults

Many thanks for the quick responses!

The beeps are one short, then two sets of three, then one short.

Most of the beep code errors are ram related
I can't find a match in the service manual for that combination

Did you take the RAM out and then test it again?

    I'll bet it's the keyboard error... 202 I think?

Make sure you don't have any keys stuck in the down position on the keyboard. Try to look for a code.... If it is beeping you should be able to read a code on the screen or count the beeps and let us know what the deal is.

Below the handle there are two slide bar. Slide it outward and then flip it over the unit. As you can see at the bottom of the unit it is divided into two portion. The front one is the cover for both battery and harddrive caddy. open it up and you will find the battery. the battery has tab on it, pull the tab outward again and it will release the battery. Under the battery you will see the ram on it attached to its socket if there is. To pull out the ram you must push the two metal/plastic lock back outward and it will automatically pop up one side of the ram and then pull it. Good Luck.

Sorry for the late follow-up- I had a bit of trouble finding a full list: 1-3-3-1 = 28 Autosize DRAM

So this would indicate RAM as most have suspected. I found the list here. Can anyone confirm that this list is in fact accurate for the ToughBooks? It looks to me that they have PhoenixBIOS version 4 or later which is what this list is good for. If so, I will create a new post with the full list and see if we can get a link to that post added to the BIOS section of the CF28/29 FAQ posts in case the linked site ever pulls the info.

Sorry for delay - been working away, thanks for all assistance; turned out to be the RAM, followed all advice and now up and running with replacement RAM.

    Thanks again for everything.
