Great little guide! (As usual!) I just ordered I-Guidance for my 29 so it was nice to see some screen shots.

My opinion on the CF-28 STOCK GPS system differs though. While every now and then someone will discover an actual working Panasonic GPS system in a CF-28.... The news is usally far, far worse! Some don't work at all and most won't pull in more than 3-4 satellites even if you are out in the middle of a field! Out of the 4-5 that I have had... I've only had 1 that was any good.

    You are VERY lucky!

I use DeLorme Topo v.4 in my Cf-28 with a USB-GPS from US-Global. For marine work, I use Offshore Navigator from Maptech. Every nautical chart published for the USA and posessions is available for FREE! from Maptech's web site! Ihave been using Toughbooks in my work and play for about 4 years. It's great fun on a long flight to stick the GPS puck under the pull down shade on the plane, fire up Topo and know exactly what part of the world I'm looking at out the window.I've been lurking for a while, but I just picked up a few 800ghz machines from e-Bay and am going to have to trick 'em up a bit. This is one of the most informative and friendly groups I have found to date, good job all! Toughbook, got any bottom plate screws for the CF-M34 I bought from you?

I wasn't aware that Toughbook had any CF-M34's before this week...

But welcome to the board, and I hope you can get plenty of use out of what we do here. The more people that have done something with their toughbook because of projects we've done, the more inclined we are to do more projects.

Terminus; You're becoming very useful so far. Good job.

Well, as soon as I develop more experience with them I'll try to pitch in where I can. I almost got a second CF28 today but the seller is balking now. We'll see. If I get it, it's not very well equipped so it will be my first project machine. It would be so cool to be able to add aftermarket GPS, high power wifi with external antenna capability, and maybe internal USB 2.0. IF I can get it, it has a combo card (modem/ethernet) that will be ripped out and I think I'd like to put the USB connectors there. I should be able to fabricate a black plate in plastic easily enough if I can make sure it's waterproof (sounds like more little rubber covers to annoy me) - I love the CF28 case design, we have so much room to play with! The other thing I wanted to do was "upgrade" my screen to 13.3 with touch someday soon, so hopefully in a few months I'll accumulate enough parts to get that done. If my finances hold out (the economy is fading fast!!)

Well, I bought it... Hopefully it arrives soon... a CF-28PCJGZPM in seemingly good condition but kind of unadorned so perfect for becoming the frankenbook(tm).

Sorry - that Name is already (TM) my Ubuntu-powered i-Book... Even have the 2-button Frankenmouse on it!

I will not quibble, however, over "Bookenstein"...

Huh? What? I didn't sell a CF-M34 to anyone? Are you talking to the right person?

BTW... I received my iGuidance and have tried it out on my CF-29... LOVE IT!
I can't believe they had that poor woman record ALL those street names! Some are obviously a mechanical type voice... but most are actually recorded. There are BIG buttons for use with the touchscreen.

I tired it going into and back from Virginia. It worked extremely well except for one time there was some sort of error that made the program crash. I like th fact that if you decide you want to go another way... The program automaticaly reroutes you. My wife's nav in her BMW wants you to keep making U-Turns for miles after you deviate from the planned path.

All in all... Very pleased. I got mine on ebay for only $85 + shipping. Better than the $109 on their website.

I just recieved my shipment of GPS goodies to try out and review, I also found IGuidance for $99US, couldn't bother looking to save another $10 as this was part of a larger order anyway from Globesat, going to try it out and do a review comparing it to streets and trips (I only have S&T 2007 so it won't be very accurate as S&T 2008 is out now). So far though it seems like the PERFECT GPS software for laptop use in a vehicle (especially with touchscreen).

Reviews to follow - in a new thread of course.

I went on a long trip this weekend, and I thought I'd try out a feature of iGuidance that I had not previously tried, the "Record Track" function. Well, much to my dismay once I started using it, iGuidance started crashing. Anyone else try this? (I am using the factory GPS)

The factory GPS stinks... I'll try the Record Track later today when I do a little running around and let you know.
