Now I have a CF29 I'm considering taking it 'on the road' instead of my CF18, and thinking about transport options. Already have an 'always on' Infocase for my CF18 which I use now and then (usually the system travels in a Pelican case), so wondering what the slip case for CF29/30 systems from Infocase is like in actual use?

I wouln't know... My Toughbook travels au naturale.
Try feeding it some sneakers; maybe it will grow some bumpers.

I have one of the CF-30 leather cases. and after some use decided to forgo it. Temps with it on increased. so yeah it will keep it pretty, but won't let it dissipate heat as well. here in houston,tx it seems I will only use it in winter if at all. They do look cool. I think they were for electrical antistatic use. I got 2 on ebay a while ago. Few nicks and scratches won't hurt it, but extra heat will. plus the leather case blocks most every port including the media bay. I cut out part of it so i could use the usb, but it was a pain to hook it up to a monitor, etc.

I use a case that I bought for $2 at the local second-hand store. It was a promotional bag from some IBM Conference in 2009. It is just big enough for my CF-29 and its power supply and a little extra. I find it pretty handy!
Is it "needed," no. The CF-29 would do fine without it. But I am very active in my work and see no reason to scratch and bump my machine around needlessly!
Yes, the Toughbook will take the abuse, but it is not somehow "good" for it...
CF29/30 slip case from Infocase - good or bad?
