My original kb had 2 ribbons, the new rubber one 3. I assume the 3rd is the power for the backlight. Where exactly do I plug that ribbon in? I tried the slot directly across from where one the original ribbons was - no light. Can anyone help?

You have the 2 on the left, and one on the top right.

The one on the top right when you plug the cable in, the gold contacts must be facing you, so bend the cable 180 degrees so you can see the contacts and plug it in just like the other 2

Assuming you have a CF-29, you need to plug the third (longest ribbon) into the third connector (from the front). The tricky part is it must be folded back on itself and plugged in upside down to how it lays. Make sure the "fold" is more of a bend with a radius of about 2-3 mm.

    And welcome to the forum!

I don't really see how the KB could be doing this. But ever since I installed the kb correctly so it lights up. I'm getting blue screened as I try to boot up. Coincidence or ...

Probably not. You could disconnect the keyboard and turn the computer on. You would have to kill it by holding the power switch to the right for a bit after the test.

Then if the BSOD goes away you know your cables were inserted a little crooked perhaps.

Optionally re-install the old KB and see if things work right.

It is hard to say without knowing exactly how you disconnected/reconnected the cables.
I've been wanting to do the following photo essay for a while. You gave me the excuse. While shooting this I found it easy to place the cables at an angle. (That's bad) :D Sorry I don't have a backlit laying around for the photo op.

    1. Keyboard PCB
    2. Screwdriver pointing to the backlit socket. Push gently on the little slider to lock. Push one side then the other and repeat for even seating.
    3. Push here on both ends with a small screwdriver to open. Reverse to close. Cable goes over the brown part. Again push a little one side then the other and repeat.
    4. Open by placing screwdriver in the slot and twisting. Cable goes under the white part. This can be closed with a finger nail.

    Respectfully submitted,

    Jeff

Thanks guys i reinstalled it and its all better. This kb is very difficult to type on.

I lost the first of my 3 install cds years ago. So im just running xp. Does anyone have any idea why when i try to calibrate my touch screen, when I finish hitting the red + symbols, it says "parameter error, input again" - every time, no matter what I do.

Nobody knows the parameter errors I've seen..... Sheesh.... Seems like just about every CF-29 has a bad TS now...

Really? It works fine, though the calibration is ever so slightly off. I thought perhaps the calibration software was messed up.
