Hello fellow tough-book users, I never before had the need to seek an answer to a question I had regarding my CF29MK1, mainly because I was able to find the answers within this forum's posts. I find myself now with one question I have yet to find an answer for. my TB-CF29 model# is CF29CTPGZDM 001
SERIAL:3LKSA10699, which has the expected 1.2 Pent M MB, 64kb and 1K cashe, now the mystery is the 512Mb on board memory (factory soldered). I can find no mention of a MK1 with 512Mb on-board, rather always the expected 256Mb. Has anyone found such a discrepancy? I am ready to fill the empty slot with a 1Gig darling. Look forward to your comments. Thanks. Madbluejay

It's an interesting mystery. Thanks! Hopefully someone will know why is it some MK1's had such off-specs setups.

It's not necessarily off spec. Panasonic made so many different versions of each mk. Some are made to buyers specifications such as Verizon and other telco's.

Open link in IE not Firefox. Go to discontinued models etc....

No mystery here: the "P" in the Model Number indicates the OEM configuration of 512MB onboard RAM.

And as to a 1GB 200-pin SODIMM DDR PC2700 memory module, many here (myself included) will recommend Crucial Technologies

    Or in Firefox:
    Google Pana config
Migrate to "all discontinued models" "cf-29 (or whatever)"
    [alt][view]page style no style
hit reload current page a time or two (blue arrow thingy)
when finished [alt][view]page style basic page style
I think it may not be as complete as IE but it's O.K. for rough work.

    Jeff :)

That's great! What a fantastic source of information you gentlemen are. I got my Mk1 from a GSA decommissioned /surplus equipment. It was never used, however had been almost crushed at the warehouse. It has damage to the harddrive compartment, collapsed underside cover, intruding into the HDD cubby hole. I got a new bottom cover and a new keyboard (old one had missing keys that had been scavenged for other systems lost keys. I fit another CF HDD caddy, a CF50 I believe, had to do some stainless steel metal work modifications, but works! Loaded a 160Gb HDD in and XP-Pro and all the drivers, one by one. It works great and it i s pretty nimble for a rugged system. I will use it in the field(Biological Data) but hope to treat it well. Do not wish to test it's limits! Again, many thanks.

Ditto! This doesn't sound like the average hacksaw and J-B weld ingenuity.
