just wanted to let everyone know that there are no video drivers for the cf29h everything else works once you upate them except for the Video since it uses the 845 style chipset

its sad the 845 graphics drivers cant be backwards compatable with windows 7. even unsigning the drivers causes it to not work

    a sad day :(

    Several choices

    1) Members have W7 working on cf-18 mk-1 that has lower spec hardware , so if you read posts related to installing W7 on the cf-18 it might give you ideas to try

    2) Sell your mk-3 and upgrade to a mk-4 model

might be a option I know the Intel 82852/82855 graphics is finicky and at least wont stay installed on the mk3 asks to reboot every time and goes into a endless loop.

    Did you try these?

Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows* XP

It is reportedly working with Winslows 7th Attempt ;) when run in XP Compatability and Administrator mode.

Yeah it's been fun I'll try those and see what happens. My main concern is still the keys cause the screen is too dim for normal and to bright for low light.

I know I am jumping in here a bit late but DON'T worry too much about the video driver. Just use the generic MS video driver as installed with Win 7. It works perfectly fine. I installed Win7 around the beginning of the year and have had no probems with it since. I have since sold that CF-29 but as far as I know it is still running fine.

What effect does upgrading from XP Pro to Win7 have on battery life and/or speed of everyday tasks like downloading emails and surfing?
Any thoughts? Worth the apparant troubles (on a CF-29N)

    OK...this is my thoughts
Speed....some what, when it didn't freeze up :(
    Battery life....same :)
Emails / surfing ....no inbox, surfing no difference :(
    Oreo interface.... nope :(
Ease of install compared to XP...23 minutes to install XP with restore disk includes drivers
To install W7...3 weeks and lots of hair loss :(
Play movies / videos... sure does but freezes half way into it :(
    So lets add it up 1 :) + 5 :( =

If you really want to find out what its like read this http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/443786-win7-pro-cf-29-a.html Some have had good luck and others like me just gave up after a month. I installed W7 on my CF-30 and 51 and had no problems at all.

    No problem
If you have lots of time on your hands then go for it but the way I look at it is, no OS should be this hard to install. Many have spent months trying to get W7 to run . Our members here have done a very good job (trying/did) to get it to work. You don't get all the bells and whistles with it on the 29 :( . If you have the restore disk for the 29 it only takes 25 minutes to install XP and you are up and running surfing the internet. That is my type of install :D

I found battery life suffered on CF-18 and also the battery monitering was a bit screwed up, would say I was down to 7 percent but would keep running for 1.5hrs ish before red charge light came on. On the plus side however start up seemed quicker and I just used the generic graphics drivers with no probs, there are some really good guides on here to get the extra features working I`d highly recommend giving it a try as it`s a much nicer user experience to XP.

I`ve switched back to XP now due to compatability issues with some of the motor trade software I use (there are fixes for pretty much everything but the last thing I want to do when lying upside down trying to do something back to front is "search for a solution online" because it wont open a wiring diagram!)

2 Hard drive caddys FTW! When I grow tired of this new found "Hype" I power down swap then power back up with my XP and all my happily functioning programs.
