Hello all, I'm new here and I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this problem (I've looked back about 150 pages):
I have a CF29 Mk5 with the Verizon EM5625D module in it. This was my computer in my work vehicle for about 4 years, used about 80 percent in a docking station. When the vehicle was retired from service, I pulled the computer and docking station out and used the computer off and on for about 3 months on my desk with no problems.
Then one day all of a sudden the Verizon modem would not connect and I would get an error message saying that there was a hardware failure in the modem and it could not connect. (I use a WinXP dialup connection, not the VZAM)
I found this strange so I tried re-loading the drivers, and when I did this, I got a message saying the driver could not be loaded and the message would repeat over and over again. Trying the VZAM, it told me that the WWAN device was powered off and to look for the wireless on switch, which of course was on, but I switched it off and on several times, to no avail. The WWAN lights on the front light up as usual.
I also tried restoring the computer using the OEM restoral disks, same problem.
Anyone else ever have this? Did the EM5625D or the sled die?
Thank you for your help and for all the information in this forum, I can tell I'm going to be here a lot!

Do you have access to another modem? I think I'd go with the original error message since nothing else changed.
Couple things you probably did but....
Pull all power. Hold switch on for five seconds or so.
Restore power.
In bios set to default. [F10]
Make sure WWAN is enabled in bios.
That's about it. Using the restore disks basically did the above anyway so I think you are looking at hardware.
One other thing did you pull extra ram out and try it?
Someone that knows what they are talking about will be along in a bit.
Good luck. -

Thanks for your fast responses. I went to work and got another identical computer and swapped sled/modem with it and had the same error, so I guess the sled/modem gave up the ghost.
Thanks for your suggestions!! -

I would just like to say that Alex is DA MAN!! Got the modem, fixed me right up!
The same computer also had the CF29 touchscreen issue, where the touchPAD worked fine but as soon as you touched the screen, the cursor would jump to the extreme right of the screen. I read a lot of the posts here and found out this is a common problem with the 29 and usually requires TS replacement.
There were a couple of posts that said that people had disassembled the lid and manipulated the small 4 conducter flex cable on the side and it had resulted in the TS working again so I thought why not give it a try!
Well I did, and it worked! I unplugged and re-seated the connector a couple of times, no-go, then unplugged it and flattened out the cable a bit and plugged it back in, it worked, then carefully re-assembled the lid, making sure I didn't pinch the cable (it had one REALLY sharp kink in it from before) put it all back together and it still works!
Anyway thanks all for your help!!
