    Hi all.

I updated the MS C++ files, reinstalled Windows XP SP3 finally to two different partitions (thought Firefox was issue), reinstalled Ross Tech VCDS and MS C++ software many times (launching VCDS causes the Runtime Error!), tried both USB ports, customer support at Ross Tech etc. etc.

Would bad RAM cause this issue?
Would upgrading the OS solve this issue?

Any browser I use tends to not download larger files so not sure how to test RAM via 'net. BIOS recognizes RAM.

Image of error nag and "functioning" VCDS below.

I am at a total loss. I'd really like to use this software on this ToughBook but it's looking a lot like either an OS issue or hardware issue. The TB itself works and VCDS launches ok first time but subsequent launches of graph will cause the Runtime Error message.

Which Windows OS upgrade will allow me to use the CF29 drivers? (Panasonic website isn't working right now)

    Much thanks

    Neil.

    Thanks people.

Did the RAM test, 2 passes. No faults. Did boots in "Diagnostics" mode etc. to no avail. Another reinstall of VCDS, then boot in "Normal" mode got it working (ironically on an XP partition on my Macbook) but as soon as I used Firefox, R6002 re-appeared. The same thing happened on my CF29 and IIRC, happened with Firefox and Opera.

I've done clean installs on separate partitions, uninstalled browsers, uninstalled-reinstalled VCDS, and all the C++ updater files I can find to no avail but the issue seems to be related to launching and using a given web browser.

I apologize for the OT material here but I"m losing my mind. Really want this to work on my CF29. The hardware is in good shape as is battery and it would be kick-a** for my needs while camping/off roading.

Am using VCDS 12.12.0 I've contacted customer support but am putting feelers out where I can. They claim XP is fine for this version of VSCD but since I'm seeing the exact same issue and behaviour on two different platforms, (CF29 and Macbook).... < shrugs > I dunno.... ;)

I really don't want to resort to a notebook......

I read on one of the searches I did about VCDS that a guy was having the same issue with his VCDS. A newer OS made it go away.....I would download the iso of win7 direct from Microsoft. Install it and try it. You will have (I think) 30 days to try win7 before the activation locks you out. That's enough time to see if win 7 will solve your issue.

Try installing different versions of .....I hate to say it..... :(Internet Exploder :(.....Start with the original version in Win XP. Work your way up 1 version at a time. Try VCDS in each one. Don't install any other browser.

Is this a legit serial for VCDS....No hacks, cracks or mods???? I am guessing it is, since you were willing to contact Ross's tech support.

    Another question:
Did you run windows update after you reinstalled WinXP? Even though you installed sp3, there are still a crapload (yes that IS the official word) of updates.

Did you try only loading the latest version of C++?
Alot of people say it's a registry issue....Doesn't seem to make sense on a fresh install, but Microsoft can be sloppy. Try running a program called CCleaner.... http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Edit: will "activating" my XP OS with Microsoft help? ..... and sheesh. Running CCcleaner seems to have caused the r6002 error again in VCDS. Remaining hair .... now .... pulled ... from .... scalp. ;)

    Hey Shawn.

Didn't know about the trial Win 7. Thanks for that. Looking here: Panasonic Toughbook Computer Support Downloads

I see Panasonic only offers CF29 drivers up to Vista. I guess I could have Win 7 on one partition XP on the other.

I think I follow the IE thing. Doesn't Windows use it as the OS search engine? it sure seems to be browser related. I can duplicate the behaviour exactly by launching Opera or Firefox. Either will cause VCDS VS-Scope to fail (r6002) And ya, the VCDS copy is paid for. ;)

And embarrassed to say that no; have not run Windows update. I assumed SP3 was the end. Besides. Any browser I use will tend to stall out at 99% on larger downloads. I found another C++ file and installed that. Made no difference. But.... have not tried installing only the latest (2012) file. (though this appears to be for the app not OS? Download Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 Update 3 from Official Microsoft Download Center ) I also tried only installing the 2010 C++ file.

Thanks for the link. I had seen mixed responses to registry cleaning.

For now I think I can just boot from a dedicated VCDS partition or "general use" partition as needed. Time will tell. ;)

    Neil.

Windows has 2 different "explorers" Internet explorer is the browser.
I'm sure there are many threads here on installing win7 on a cf29..I would try the vista drivers..They will probably work with win7.
No sp3 is not the end. There are a lot of updates posted after sp3.

    Appreciate the help all.

MS update webpage isn't working right now. I"ll search for different MS links in that regard.

And for sure. After posting here, found reference to cf29/Win 7 threads here and the one ADOR points to.

Firefox, Opera, IE all cause the issue. And since CCcleaner did same, maybe any programme using some of the same OS files will do same?

Customer support is (hopefully) viewing VCDS installer etc. md5 hash files I created. They may find the issue there. I can't be the only one with this issue so maybe this will all help others.

I got lucky with this TB. The battery life is pretty good and physically it's in good shape. Hoping this will work!

    Neil.

Sorry this is long winded...... Short story:

Win 7 Enterprise installed, auto updated. Ethernet works. (thought CF driver would get written over during install?) VCDS installed.

Found the Win 7 "Enterprise" ISO, did several 2.4 GB downloads (long story), installed XP .net framework 2.0 image mastering/api v2, (frustrating to see so much ad/malware installed or attempted to install.... ) to enable ISO format-transfer software, formatted-transferred Win 7 files to USB thumb drive (no blank DVD's). AFter failed attempts (reformatting thumb drive under Windows likely helped), finally created a bootable thumbdrive. Changed BIOS boot order to USB, then:

"ntldr is missing...." boot stopped. Wha?

This: Tech Diary: Fix "ntldr is missing" for windows 7/8 usb install drive

led me to stumble upon the (.setup ?) in command window. Hit that and Windows setup launched while computer still booted up in XP. Maybe b/c this CF has two partitions I was able to do this? I have very little experience with command line stuff so this was dumb luck or somehow the beer soaked part of my brain containing that uber old DOS knowledge suddenly started working again.

VCDS launches in spite of a "Can't Open Codes File: CODES.DAT", hope scope works, but if what I'm doing helps others install 7 ..... (but then I bet that's all been "said and done" here). ;)

Good, At least you're making progress.
Setting up a bootable USB stick can be tricky. There is a software package that helps a lot. Let's see if I can find a link......
It's called RMprepUSB... Download - RMPrepUSB

The adware stuff is everywhere. I run CCleaner right after any fresh Windows install. Malwarebytes too.
