Im a huge fan of the fully rugged series particularly the CF-29 models , I used them alot for work (Scout Sniper) for various reasons I wont get into what kind of data entry I do with the CF-29 lol. But anyway, I was debating about purchasing my own CF-29 for personal use, probably the version MK4. I looked online and noticed that the CF-29F model I used for work is running the "federal only" CPU which means I obviously cannot purchase the same model I used for work. Can someone tell me whats so special about the CPU that makes it restricted to government use only? the exact model number I used for work is CF-29FWTGZKM, I already decoded it, nothing special nor something I would buy with that configuration. I usually hook up the com port to our satcom modems to get into our SIPRNet and JWICS network. one particular thing that is different specifically that I notice from my work computer and regular CF-29s is on the F-11 key it is marked red so that if (God forbid) I am on the verge of getting captured or have to dump my equipment I would have to press the F-11 in a certain sequence which would completely erase the hard drive getting rid of crypto and mission data, and probably fry the motherboard so it cannot be used by the enemy, though I think I just answered my own question lol. any input would be greatly appreciated, also if your curious I can take a pic of the F-11 key later. thank guys

The difference is that the federal issue unit has no wireless system like wi-fi, bluetooth and WWAN. This were an option so that data can't be transfer wirelessly. The purpose of this is for security reason. The F11 key also use with an special software program base on whatever.
Overall those federal issue unit can be install with all the option I mentioned above. Its like no difference from a private sector unit. The F model is MK3 btw.

The "federal only" models were only for the original sale. A lot of members here have ended up with them off Ebay and other sources. As already mentioned, they are nothing top secret or anything but they do have a smartcard (a.k.a. CAC card) reader option seen rarely outside those models. This is mainly useful to us military and DoD type employees.

I have a few of the mk 4 federal models and maybe a mk 5. the only difference is some were hazmat stickered models, really no difference that I could tell and no wifi card origionally installed. However I did find one with the card and not hooked up to antennae wires and not upped in the bios(supposedly). They usually had a lot less wear and tear and the mk4-5's had less hours on the clock. Toughbook, one of our gurus has previously mentioned they were some he stayed away from. Trust me, he's got much more knowledge about some of their quirks than I do, but I've been able to upgrade them with no real issues on the few I've done. Driller

The F-11 key is used in law enforcement applications for notification of Dispatch through the WAN that the officer needs emergency assistance. There is nothing magic about it, you can make it a keyboard shortcut to do whatever you like.
