I just got my CF29 today from the bay; in very good shape. The only issue, and a search suggests that this is fairly common one, is the touchpad. It functions, but it is slow and somewhat erratic, at least compared to my cf48. I've tweaked it as best I can using the Windows XP "Mouse Properties" menu, and tried the "Mousespeed3" software that someone posted, but it's still less than ideal. Any suggestions? Thanks.

With the machine off try using isopropanol alcohol to clean it really really well.

I would say try other things, but I see that you've already done your homework and have tried those other things :)

Thanks Rob--I'd cleaned it once, but went over it again thoroughly and it improved things quite a bit. Not bad at all now. Thanks again.

    Stew-

The other thing you can try is to take a thin edge of a toothpick or cut a strip of plastic from a 2-liter plastic bottle about 3/8" wide, then cut one end of that to a right triangle (my preferred tool - no chance of it breaking off inside). Use this to poke all the way around between the touchpad & under the bezel; you'll be AMAZED at the crud you find in there.

Thanks to Ohlip for the original idea; I've found MANY laptops' pointer ills cured with this procedure. Too bad there isn't such a simple fix for those stupid "J-Mouse" rubber nipple pointing devices when they inevitably start wandering across the screen...

I don't know if this will get by "Eagle Eye Rick", but my sister the CPA used to refer to those as a starts with cl ends with it

Hilarious. But the disparity in conspicuousness is disappointingly extreme.

Ah yes... but this IS the land of conspicuous consumption; the disparity between what this nation was meant to be and what we've made of it, by action or inaction, is the cause of of most of my disappointment...

Fortunately, every dawn is another opportunity to make it a little better.

For what it's worth--not much, probably--I wasn't talking about the relative conspicuousness of consumption. ;)

LOL - Yes, that one is all mine. I have a lot of time to think, actually.... between eating the random would-be Slayer and watching the seasons change. Having a new dragonling (Now walking... EVERYWHERE... on EVERYTHING, including eyeballs & tender bits) does tend to make one think towards the future and where his place in it might be.

As for the unified Theory of Relative-ity & Conspicuous Consumption...

Well, perhaps not so unified after all. LOL
