Has anyone had any issues wth CF30's running SSD's?
I can pick up a Crucial M500 for a pretty good price, just curious what peoples experiences are

yeppers ... it will improve things immensely and is a good investment .
there are only a couple of SSDs that gave fits ... but i believe that as long as you stick with a good , reputable name brand , they will work .
personally , i go with the samsung evo series ... i have not had one glitch in three yearstoughasnails likes this. -
The M500 is a good drive,I just bought 3 of them this morning and have used a pile of them in sale Toughbooks. Intel's are slow for SSD's ,Sandisk is just Ok,Samsung Evo is another good one.

I have done it twice so far. My first one had a 100gb OCZ, It has been sold. My current one has 160gb Intel X25. -
Are the Crucial SSD's any good?
What brands are best.avoided? -
I have had good luck with Samsung Pro SSDs. There are a couple factors to factor in between cloning the disk and starting from a blank slate.
1) The migration software may not transfer the recovery partitions, if that is important, a separate program will be needed for cloning. If starting new, then you will have a little extra space.
2) Whichever drive you choose, look into how the drive manufacturer deals with provisioning as some want 10% free space allocated so the drive can move things around as needed to keep the drive healthy. That is different from visible free space, but a hidden partition.
3) After the drive is cloned, there are steps to instruct win7 on how to modify trim and default instruction so the drive can function correctly. The manufacturer software can be installed temporarily to optimize the drive after the base drivers are installed.
4) Make sure to disable any automated disk defrag if part of McAfee or the like programs.
The difference in performance is worth it. Good luck deciding. -
I have had Samsung SSD's in my 30's for several years and it's just lovely!

This was on a CF-30 vII
Yesterday I replaced the Hitachi SK320 (160 GB) HD with a Crucial (CT240BX200SSD1.PK01 BX200 240GB 2.5 inch SSD). The replacement drive cost $69.99 US.
I used a Sabrent SATA to USB cable that I picked up from Fry's (less than $10). The Crucial drive came with a license key for Acronis True Image so I could clone the existing drive.
The clone process took less than 30 minutes, it took another 10 minutes to swap the drive in the caddy.
I am running Windows 7, 32 bit. The Windows experience score for the hard drive went from 5.4 up to 7.2. The machine boots noticeably faster and I have 50% more drive space. I disconnected the little plug for the heater as I live in the south and do not experience cold temperatures with any regularity.QldRtv likes this. -
Acronis works very well for drive swaps. I use it all the time.
As long as you re-run the Windows experience after the swap. (Which you did) Re-running the experience forces Windows to change settings to tune for the SSD. -
I use the Samsung Magician software for all my cloning. Extremely easy and have never had any hiccups.
