Hey all, been a sedate year or so since I was in here but now I have a crop of CF-30's to fix up and I need some advice!

Firstly, every time i do a search here i get the same response, even on different computers.
" Could not find phrase 'invalid_search_query'."
Any Ideas?? or is NBR just having software indigestion still??

Secondly. I have tried loading Win XP onto a Mk1 with the Win XP Bios, (Its a factory XP setup) and I get the files to load, then when it comes time to reboot from the HDD it say's there isn't a drive there but Bios shows it!

I have tried 3 different HDD's, different caddy's, and even a diff XP OS CD. Win7 Loads up just fine though! (with a few driver issues of course)

Thirdly, and last. I have a few XP & Vista COA's sitting around and I came across a 3 pack of Win7 'Upgrades' and I was wondering (besides 1/3 the price) what the difference was and if it is worth the hassle??

    Thanks for all the info!

I have made it a habit to set to default in bios on new installs. Pulling all power and cycling the switch a few times ....I don't know if this always works but I do it anyway.
I have one CF-29 doing the same thing and I'm going to go in and re-set the cables hdd/battery.
And last I received a caddy/drive where the heater was missing. Which made everything suspect...

    TEST site:forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic - Google Search

Search with this...drag and drop to tool bar. Replace TEST with your query.

    Time to clean the barn.

Are you using a restore disc or a standard XP disc? The standard XP disc requires that the SATA driver be loaded from a floppy disc.

Could you let me know what phrase...word for word you are using. Others are having problems too but works fine for me when I try it...I use the link Jeff posted

I have windows 7 on my CF-30 MK1 and it runs great But it will take a little more work. When upgrading to Vista or W7 you will need to upgrade the BIOS and use different drivers which we have all in a zip file on Rob's site here Index of ./CF-30 Stuff/CF-30 Windows 7 Drivers - Darrin Gartrell/ . There is a thread on this upgrade here http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/476149-how-load-windows-7-cf-30-mk1-model.html

As I've said in my email,

It's a bad hard drive. Try replacing it :)

    Thanks

I think the problem was the 'Regular' XP install disk and no sata driver installed by floppy instead of using a restore disk.

I'm very greatfull for the help and tips! The Family pack I had found is a sweet deal! It includes Win7 Home Premium 32 & 64 bit software, a 3 Lic COA, (3 different computers not just cpu's) and all of that for 120 bucks. Plus, Newegg has some nice 60Gb Sata3 OCZ SSD's on sale for 55 bucks.

SO... Now to go bury myself in tiny screws, caddy's and other parts getting the bios flashed, download all the drivers, and READ the tutorial a few (more) times so when the stuff gets here I'll be Ready! :)

ToughasNails: it didn't matter what I searched for. I'm using Firefox (cuz IE doesn't work) and I have searched for CF-30, SSD, and a few other words in the titles of recent posts and all i get is the Invalid string message. I'll try that link later after things settle down a bit here.

Thanks again guys, you're a vast wealth of useful Info!

    Update.

I'm going with a family Pack of Win7 and SSD's. They are only 60GB but more than I'll need, especially with toughdrives easy and cheap to get.

All is going well, updated the bios and have them set up and ready to go; as soon as all the parts/software arrive.

Thanks for all the help and Info!

Why because everyone thinks ebay is cheaper  and most are not a member of this forum to find this out :D ...my guess you did not add there high shipping charges ($30.00) to the price . I have seen them on ebay for $40-$50 shipped by USA sellers but none now.

Yep, Heartland is a bit strict with thier shipping prices, but they are strait forward and honest about it, UNLIKE the poor China company that was 'Hacked' and according to ebay/paypal rules I would have to provide return shipping with internet tracking, yadda yadda yadda... It would have cost me 50+ in shipping to get a return of my 18 bucks...

I had heard that Teo was crazy smart and might be able to help me out with some info on the LCD inverter problem.

I'm Running into this sata problem on a cf-52-C- while trying a new install of XP

    Must I Have a Floppy?

    Would Windows 7 solve this?

Is there a Linux that would also work?

    Thanks
