    Greetings all!

First off I just want to say that this community is great! I have long wanted to own my own toughbook and finally pulled the trigger on one. I loved them when I was in the service and i'm still digging them now. Due to all the great support found on this site I was able to get windows 7 on my new CF30 with all drivers working flawlessly.

Now to my question is the smart card reader in these toughbooks capable of writing data to raw smart cards as well as reading from them? I am new to this older technology but as somewhat of a tinkerer I love exploring all aspects of technology and am thinking i'll use it to store credentials for ssh or something similar. I just want to know if I need to buy a separate usb device to write information to cards.

Please excuse me if someone has already asked this I have done my best to search the web and these forums but have come up short. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Oh one unrelated thing I got the fingerprint reader on this machine and am also wondering if I can get any recommendations for software so I can use it.

Thanks in advance! I look forward to becoming a part of this awesome community.

I had a couple blank cards here. I messed with the smartcard for a bit when I got my first Toughbook (CF50) I soon lost interest in the card reader. I will see if I still have those cards although I may have tossed them...

I have decided I will order some blank cards and see what happens. They are relativity cheap and the nerd factor for me would be more than worth it. :)

Hi I use my smart card reader in express slot and the separate sd card all the time, it is recognized in win 7 pro with proper drivers, had to try several drivers before it worked, then windows on one update saw the sd cards as WPD volume drives, they still work. I like the small format and not the stubbiness of a usb flash drive that I have broken , cause forgot it was there, SNAP!!!
