CF 31A mk1
GOBI 2000
I want to try GPS only....
Which terminal is best to connect a GPS patch antenna to? Main or Aux?
Will I need any of the wacky GOBI/WWAN software for GPS only?
It's a real Panasonic branded card.

"Will I need any of the wacky GOBI/WWAN software for GPS only?"
heh ... sounds like a reject name from star wars .

Don't know which terminal to connect antenna to, but you do need wacky software to get "Qualcomm GOBI HS-USB NMEA 250F (COM8)" to show up under "Ports (COM & LPT)" in device manger. Then pick COM 8 in GPS software. (Com Port # may vary in your Toughbook, but that's the COM Port # in mine.)
If the GOBI 2000 is installed in a CF-W8 or similar, it works fine without a GPS patch antenna. But the card is located in the lid (under plastic), not under the metal palmrest.Shawn likes this. -
Shawn, did you get the GPS working from the GOBI card? I just got a CF-31 and am looking for a GPS solution.
-
Not on the WWAN card. I went for a dedicated GPS.

We got really lucky on some OEM GPS and later on some antennas.
The cool thing is they are basically invisible.......and work 50% better (at least) than GOBI on CF-31.
GOBI 2000 is better used/utilized on CF-53. My problem there is/was finding a place for the GPS dedicated antennae. Duct tape to the lid finally got old so I scrapped that idea. It was actually wide black tape. But very ugly.....ummm maybe just electrician's tape.
Go for OEM at minimum on the 31.
"We" is Talking Dog Ranch Computer Weirdos. It's a long story.

how about mounting the antenna with gorilla snot (aka : silicone RTV) ?
-
Larry, you may not understand. It was duct taped to the OUTSIDE of the lid.
When Jeff says ugly, he means ugly. -
The cable came out through the ram door. rofl Worked great.
-
that is beyond ugly ...
"johnny hayseed" comes to mind .
