Sorry I have been ghost on you guys. Been moderating 3 car forums and a Facebook group on top of offline stuff. I am retiring my 29 and 51 soon and I have a 31 on the way to kinda replace them both. The 29 was just for tuning my 2 cars and the 51 is pretty much the recreational use.
The CF 31 I have on the way is CF-31BWABZ2M and the bios supposedly has 0 hours on it.
From the looks of it I purchased a 3rd non wireless unit. With the 2 51's I lucked up and the antenna was already there. The 72 in my sig I ended up finding an older parts 72 and did the swap.
I'm also contemplating the recovery discs. I have HDD caddy on the way and I also wanted to know if the CF 29 and 51 power supply(s) work on the 31?

Yes, learned my lesson on the recovery discs. I'll go ahead and eat the cost for simplicity and sanity. What happened to the configuration site? I can't find anything telling me what MK my toughbook is. -

Works fine for me...here you go.
Model Number : CF-31BWABZ2M
Status : DISCONTINUED
MSRP : $4,755
Description: No Wireless, WinXP (Win7 COA), Intel Core i5-520M 2.40GHz, 13.1" XGA Touch, 160GB, 2GB, TPM, No WLAN, No Bluetooth, No Pass Through, Smartcard, Rubber Backlit Keyboard, No Drive, Toughbook Preferredscpres and adamwest436 like this. -
Where do I find what MK it is to order recovery? Being "DISCONTINUED" and XP with a 7 COA, I take it's going to be 1 or maybe 3 as I see that has both XP and 7 options attached?

Easy....just go to panasonic driver page and under your model it should tell you CF-31B

I see Mk 1 Performance/ Standard and MK 1 Value. I'll ll take this route until the disc(s) arrive.
I have some questions for my 29 MK3 in my sig, but ill search a bit more and make a separate thread. Are old threads automatically locked by time delay? Most my threads I started or spoke in when I started my off need to collect these machines are locked at the moment. -
New question, how hard is it to find this piece that secures the "soft" covers or just bend it back and call it a day vs dealing with shipping from heartland?

yeppers ...
i'd pull the screws and give it an eyeball .
the damage (hopefully) may be minimal ... nothing that a #0 ball-peen hammer wouldn't fix . -
I figured that much, the seller actally did point it out and sent me those pics. The other pics in red background kinda show it but not if you weren't looking for it. I'm not too picky as I won't be using this to it's full capabilities outside of extreme Cleveland winters and being palatalized with other gear on a plane every now and then. I originally had a IBM and it didn't like being palatalized that much. In search for a pretty strong laptop led here with the 29 and 51 being my 1st 2 purchases. Then the 2 72's and another 51 after I figured I had too many and let it go prematurely.
Before I continue a life story rant, the 29 I have has a crack on the palm rest on the left where it goes from silver to black and held up fine to my purpose of use, only thing stopped working was the touch screen and I don't have sound on my W7 HDD
Tracking says it should be here tomorrow but the HDD is going to be Tuesday. My next project is Optical and Wireless. I have a few wireless usb and cards but will the wireless card in the 51 work? -
From the picture of your post#9. It looks like the base area beneath the USB port is cracked. Hopefully you can still hook up any other usb hardware on that port but anyway there are four USB on CF-31 though. Make minor repair right away on the crack to prevent any liquid that penetrate inside by applying a metal epoxy.
No! The card on the CF-51 uses Full mini pci e card while the CF-31 uses half mini pci e card( Intel 6200 actually but 6300 will be fine too.)

Yeah I'm hoping a simple solution, I'm used to only having 2 USB with the 29 and the 51 doesn't like when I try to use all 4 at the same time.

Yes but I am not sure if you will need the bracket pictured or not. Someone might be able to tell you.

It's here, and yep it's cracked.
Took a few 29 vs 31 shots as well.
-
Oh yeah...so after ordering the wireless card I get the 31 say about 30 mins later.
Open it up and..... someone help me understand this inside?
This switch that lights up when on and flashes then goes off when switched to off..
-
Base on the picture, you already have the WLAN card. The switch is for wireless system. Unfortunately you don't have Bluetooth, GPS and broadband modem but as I said you already have the WLAN.
Switch it on and look on the bios if it also enable then let windows(win 7) install the driver for you. That is the location of all the add on option(GPS, Bluetooth, WLAN and WWAN).

It has a WLAN card (wifi) but it does not have a WWAN card..

WLAN is WiFi and WWAN is Cellular?
Hard drive and caddy is lost via Fed EX. It was suppose to be here Saturday. Also no word back from Rob, I sent a PM to see if he had the DVD for it. -

Hard drive is now supposed to be here tomorrow. Wish me luck. Any how to's for the corner repair would it be worth sending it off to one of you experts?

about repairing that cracked case near the power connector ...
one can use "JB weld" or a good quality epoxy to ensure integrity against moisture and dust intrusion , but it will do little good as far as physical strength goes .
it should be possible to drift the two sections back into alignment and then carefully drill small holes on both sides of the crack and case bottom to accommodate a small "fish plate" with matching holes that bridges the top/inside of the crack .
the holes in the fish plate can be tapped to match the screws or small matching nuts can be used .
a small hole should be drilled at the end of the crack to prevent "running" .
there is an "aluminum solder" available .
(not to be confused with that model airplane cement that has aluminum powder in it ... worthless crapola)
however , this requires the area to be soldered to be scrupulously clean and the application of heat that will destroy the paint ...
not to mention the disassembly required .
more pictures of the bottom side of the crack would be helpful . -
TIG weld it...
-
Lol damn didn't want to do a full tear down. Better pics as in from the inside of the case?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Tried to take pics of it, looks like it's on the crease and possibly not intrusive as it looks. Some of the screws didn't like the idea i was removing them. This is gonna be a fun tear down. Gotta call and find out about my hard drive as it is still scheduled for delivery on 13 of this month and hasn't left the state it originated in.

Had HQ video but only contains me trying to hold the camera still, focus and peel back the weather stripping to take the 1st pic.
The silver/white line in 1st pic is the 1 tear and the 2nd one shows like a black foam/mesh material not similar to the one around the ports.

Contact the seller and verify your address......
If the address is correct, the seller can contact UPS, they will find the package...
They are very thorough..
They are insane busy this time of year and have temporary help on every truck....1 driver and 1 assistant. -
That will be USPS not ups. They said it was delivered elsewhere and on return to this side of town.
Stylus made it here yesterday and dvd is scheduled for tomorrow. Anyone have a pic of how the tether is tied to the unit? I kinda did this for now.

Got the HDD 30 mins after I sent this. DVD and recovery are the last things I will need to get me on my feet.

So far I am liking it, I'll tackle the cracked lip eventually. I had an issue but it was user error. One of the 4 gig memory sticks didn't fully seat so it only showed 4 of 8 gigs. I also have a Intel 730 SSD that will eventually go into the caddy. -
I'm still in need of the recovery discs.
-
Contact Rob at tbt. He can help you with the recovery disk that you needed.

I have a 31B here on the shelf with 160 hours on it,pm sent.
