Has anyone seen this behavior? I have 2 CF-31s just updated to WIN10 from a fresh install of WIN7 and the F1 and F2 keys work to increase or decrease the screen brightness but a second later it resets back to what is was before making the manual change. Anyone know a way of allowing manual control with the Hotkeys?

I am NOT a fan of LOSE10. Oh sorry Wind10. (Lots of hot air)
I have read other users with Hotkey issues with Win10.

    My solution:
Use Win7 with the proper Panasonic drivers.

Check your power settings. Win 10 "thinks" it owns your computer and will adjust your settings at the most inconvenient times.
Like turning off your wifi card in the middle of use....

    Yes - I get the same behaviour with Windows 10 on a CF-30 MK3.
I would imagine it isn't specific to Toughbooks.
You can use the 'Display Settings' slider and that is honoured, and setting the default brightness for on and off power also works.

I found one compromise - there is a brightness option on the Actions menu (accessed via Windows Key+A) - the button toggles between 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. It's a bit quicker than having to pull in the Display Settings slider.

I would probably go with Windows 7 but it's actually much cheaper to install Windows 10 using an eBay sourced key when starting from scratch. I have Windows 7 Upgrade but this requires an existing Windows installation and this CF-30 came with Vista Business. I have been unable to source an ISO image or CD for that as yet.

Yes, the actions menu is a good option. I went with 10 because it has better touchscreen features then 7.

Ah, the "Surrender Flag" key. Thanks to mklym for the name. :)

Edit: Windows key = surrender flag End edit:

    or ... "maggie's drawers" ?
    (old army/marine corps range reference)

i agree , a clean iso is hard to find ... there are some sources available on the "torrent" hosts ... perfectly legit but a bit messed up (ie : downloads from 1 meg to 2.8 gig) and there is the risk of an infected file .
one of the more common sites for the isos was "digital river" but they yanked the sites down .
possibly the best method for a raw install of any of the M$ oses would be (what i term) the *universal* os disks ... one for each family of oses .
with these , the activation key determines what *flavor* of each os is installed .
it requires the full iso of a family of the given os and a little program that removes an item and creates a "universal" iso , ready to be burnt to disk or flash drive .

My CF-19 Mk2 with Win 10 has a peculiar behavior where the screen brightness jumps back 1 level when dimming or brightening the screen.

What video driver is installed. Win 10 likes to think it knows what's best. Re-install the Win 7 video driver from Panasonic. Use compatibility mode for Win 7 if necessary.

    64 bit driver:
