    Hi:
I'm new to the forum and own 2 toughbooks, (a retired CF-45 and a CF-48), and have a couple of questions:

1/. My CF-48 has a CD-RW/DVD combo drive. Can I upgrade this to an internal DVD writer? I know the physical size of the drives is the same, but will the laptop recognize it? (I'm running XP SP2.) The present unit is a UJDA 720 and I was looking at the UJ-845 as an upgrade unit.

2/. Is there a way to install an internal WiFi card in this machine?

    Thanks!

Should be a yes on both accounts, but as for how/where to put them, I'm not sure.

If the 48 is anything like the 50 though, there might be a door on the bottom that you unscrew one screw, and access the mini-pci slot.

The internal Intel wifi compartment is located beside the battery. It is a snap-on cover, no screws (pry open from the left, if you are facing the monitor). I've not taken the unit apart to see where the Main & Aux antenna cables lead to but yes, the mini-pci slot is there.

Have not gotten a replacement DVD drive or their compatibility but you might find answers in this post. Update us when you're done upgrading.
