Alright, I got a bunch of help on here in another thread and I'm greatful for the resource... My next question is how do I determine if my CF51 is 32bit or 64 bit, and is there anything special I'll need to do in order to convert to windows 7 from the stock XP?

On a Mk3 and Mk3LL if you upgrade the CPU to a core 2 duo from the core duo you should be able to run a 64 bit OS. The chip set is 64bit capable but the core duo cpu that is in it is 32 bit only.
Just remember on the video drivers link those are only for intel intergrated graphics. If I remember right you have ATI x1300 card in the Mk3. Stock driver or OMEGA DRIVERS will work. I am running OMEGA DRIVERS in mine. I have a lot of problems with the older ATI control pannel and windows 7. You can just extract the content of the folder and go to device manager and update it that way with out installing the ATI control Pannel. I haven't checked lately to see if there is a new work around. -
Upgraded my CF-51 KFVDCBM mk2LL (I think) to Windows 7. Had no sound, Video or Hot Key drivers. XP's would not work so I downloaded the CF-52 Video, Hot Key Drivers for Vista. Had to get the one hkeyman file from the CF-51 drivers folder and copy it into the 52's driver folder. Then installed them in the order of app- reboot -setting- reboot- then driver- reboot then audio drivers. (the original CF-51 driver for my machine) and BOOM... I had sound. Audio control with the Hot Keys stopped working after the audio install, but it's cool. I never used it anyway. The others seem to work okay. Got the drivers here... Toughbook CF-52 Drivers

Welcome to the Panasonic Toughbook Forum
Thanks for the info, every little bit helps. -
So... a couple of hours after getting sound on my CF-51 I shut it down went to a new project (fixing the animals in Sims 3 Pets on my wife's computer) and when I booted mine back up... BOOM... all the Fn fuctions are working again. It's like the machine is brand new! SO HAPPY!!! Hope this helps and works for others.

Win7 is like that. Often if you get it close and reboot a couple of times it will straighten things out on its own.

So I recently installed windows 8 on my CF51 after hearing that Xp will no longer be supported... I had sound initially, but after a couple of updates, I completely lost sound and my Fn buttons... I could care less about the Fn buttons, but I'd like my sound. Can anyone break this down to me "Barney/romper room style" or is there anywhere I can see a video or tutorial on how to get this fixed? Thanks in advance.

Hmmm Win8 on a cf51..Why not win7? Win8 is designed for touchpad/digitizers.

It's got to be where it updated over support driver if all that dropped out. Trying though your sound driver and hot key drivers in device manager and if it give you the option to roll back like it does on windows 7.
