I was wondering...EVEN though these two antennas on each side of the Toughbook (using cf-19) are pretty much there for a signal boost...IS there any other option on a Wi-Fi booster or perhaps a Bluetooth booster that I could enhance with my gear???
We sometimes use Wi-Fi depending on the location we are at (if we are lucky). We usually stick with a wireless card though (AT&T or Verizon).
My first question would be, is there such thing or is it relevant to try to boost our signal from the laptop if needed whether in our truck on foot or in a bad spot since we have these antennas on the side anyway? So, is there such thing to enhance the signal from the cf-19?
My second question is we use scanners and they sometime unpair randomly at 2ft away from the computer , but then don’t sometimes up to 30ft depending on what you’re doing. Is there such thing as a Bluetooth signal booster?
My third question would be... Have you ever heard or used a company that provided internet all throughout the u.s.a.... maybe via satellite or via one sim card that possibly just bounces off other carrier providers when needed...
My fourth screen would be (and I heard Lenovo makes them, but can’t find it) is maybe a handheld screen that shows me what’s going on my laptop and possibly functional to move the mouse on my laptop as well... For example if I needed to do some maneuvering in a way that I couldn’t carry my laptop but could have this handheld device to read or view my screen it could benefit from time to time as using the Panasonic can be tough in some places... Ever heard of such thing???
Thanks for all the advice in advanced... It’s all much appreciated and well though through when read. Just wanted to say on my last couple of post allot of help was given along with much appreciation from my end; this forum has some very great users and smart people.

Because of the 4. point; u can try VNC via ur Android phone ( Motorola Defy ) or tablet (Toughpad FZ-A1, ASUS Tough Tablet)
Or u just use one of the tough VDW-Displays (VDW07, VDW08) from Panasonic.
Edit: Is it possible for u, to use an repeater for ur BT and/or Wifi? -
Nott 100% sure what a repeater is
-
Rave... They don't make a booster per se but you do have options... You could have a wifi repeater as suggested. Just another wireless access point for your system. Or you could put an antenna "out" jack on the CF-19 and use a cantenna system.... Or possibly a better wifi card. They do make more powerfull wifi cards over and above the stock card.
Not sure about the bluetooth issue. Perhaps it is tied in with the magnetic issues you had earlier? You could try a BT dongle and see if that does the same thing.
Someone will chime in for the WWAN setup that is good for all over the US. Basically it will use anyone's cell tower and then they all send the comapny the bill so that you only get one bill instead of however many towers you used. Sorry... Brain fart and I can't remember the name right now.
They do make a remote screen for the Toughbooks. It is a little mini PC in itself. They have a few who have used them here... I am sure others will chime in... -
I would be entertained when we enter the front gate of a highly secured place with a cantenna in the back..... lol.. I'm sure old man greg (a security office) would have a field day wondering what the hell it was before and after we explain to him (its for the internet) ...LOL..
I do appreciate all suggestions...no matter the cost.
As for the BlueTooth Dongle, Would it really make a bigger difference from the already bluetooth internal peice inside to the dongle.. I dont know much about them so bare with me.
Edit:
How far does these remote screens for the toughbooks reach??
10ft?? 20ft? 100ft? -
If you have a cell card in there have you ever used a cell signal booster? I have used them a few time when I was chasing land rigs. I would be in a location that maybe had a bar then I would loose it. I went into the office to do a report then had full signal. Didn't notice until I got a call. Talked to the boss of the job site and the main trailer had a booster put in. It was a wall mount unit but they do make card units. I priced the one they had and it was a 500 dollar plus unit. The booster not stuck to one carrier.

Interesting, Indeed we are using a cell card and sometimes have to swap it out in order to get service in an area. For instance west texas verizon south texas at&t. Do you happen to have a link to something similar to what you were using ador?

This is the Android Version (just turn off the volume while watching) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3N2w0qKEPKY
So u can use ur everyday smartphone for remote control, if u can connect the base computer and the smartphone via wifi or GSM/UMTS/CDMA together.
Here u can see the VDW07 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLmYEg8dHFI
It will work as far, as ur wifi signal goes to the display and back (1 floor in a concrete building, about 30m in free sight).
BEcause of the Wifi repeater, I think it would be a good idea to use an standard router like the linksys wrt54 series ( Linksys WRT54G series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ), which u can powerup with dd-wrt ( Universal Wireless Repeater - DD-WRT Wiki ) or u use something like an AVM Fritzbox with USB-Port, where u can insert an USB-Stick with external booster-Antenna for internet access. So it can too work as an access point for internet via GSM/UMTS/CDMA/HSDPA/LTE (depends on ur USB-stick). That's how I can use the internet mainly -
It has been over a year and a half I don't remember the name of the one they used. It was grey and had cooling fins on it kind of like this.

They had a different type in the camp where people were sleeping, it worked but not quite as good. It was like this.

I use these to carry remote video and data:
XTend RF Modems - 1 Watt/900 MHz Stand-Alone Radio Modems - Digi International
They are a little pricey and I have never tried to remotely control a computer with one, but I'll bet it's possible. I use them for remote electronic tide gauges and video feed to crane operators. I can verify that they will carry 6 or 7 miles with no problem.

Onirakkiss... That was ONE COOL Android app! I'm going to have to do that!
Is that a remote dial in? Can I access data from my home PC via Android? -
U can use an remote dial in, if u have an fixed IP, but I use VNC in the local wifi networks. I use it to install/check the security cams in the trees
To get access to my servers from anywhere to my dynamic IP address I use TeamViewer as android app.
And yes, u can also move files -
Hmmmmm... Security cameras...
<Rick makes metal note to check for gold bars buried in Onirakkiss' back yard the next time he is in Germany!>
Good info! Thanks! -
Regarding your question about a internet provider that covers all of the U.S. have you given the GOBI option any thought. It has the ability to use sim cards from multiple providers. I use one in my CF-30 and have found it to do the trick for me. When I have better signal with one of the two providers I use I just slide in their sim card it's really quite slick. A multi-provider WWAN so to speak. -
Guys... Google CradlePoint. This is a device which is MADE to turn ANY Wireless Broadband device into a mobile hotspot; they typically support PCMCIA, USB, mini-PCI and mini-PCI-E depending on model. Plug it in, share it anywhere; many models even have a battery, plus they give you an Ethernet port you can plug into anything & give it internet.
Newegg.com - cradlepoint
Dirt cheap for an enterprise-class solution, and you don't have to pay an extra bill to be able to share.
