    Can I "push" my CF-29 1.4ghz processor to 1.5ghz?

NEVERMIND! My bad, the spec sheet that I was looking at wasn't for my exact model. It is a 1.6ghz processor.
Thanks to all, sorry for wasting your time.

Any of you who have read my posts in the past know that I am not a techie by any stretch of the word, so that being said, let me state my problem, please keep any answers simple.

I want to put the DeLorme Maps of North America program on my model CF-29LTQGZBM. I have the SDRAM and the HDD space to do it (512MB & 80GB respectively) but am lacking 0.1ghz on the Pentium M LV738 Processor.

I have been told that the processor can be "pushed" to obtain the 0.1ghz without hurting it but I do not know 1)what this means, 2)if it is possible, 3)what this entails, and, 4)how to do it.

The DeLorme program is an exceptional mapping program and is my premier choice, but I am open to any other high resolution map programs that may be suggested if they are compairable.

Thanks for any and all helpful answers.

    A few things:

    1) I wouldn't waste time with this if the program will actually install. Sometimes, programs won't even install if the minimum system requirements aren't met, which if this was the case, THEN I would try to "push" it... With that being said: Did you even try the program with the system you have without messing with it?? It SHOULD still work.....

    2) "pushing it" is referring to overclocking the CPU, which, in my opinion, shouldn't be done. Even if you do want to do it (assuming step one = failure), it isn't something that's very easy... ESPECIALLY on a CF-29, since it doesn't have a fan and is all passive cooling.

    Thanks!

upgrade CPU. Increase RAM (up to 1Gb gonna be really cheap).

    Isn't a 29LTQ already a 1.6ghz speed cpu? ..Driller

How do you upgrade cpu on a cf29 without solder rework station?

I didn't try to install the program, I didn't want to spend the $100 if it wasn't going to work.

Cooling was a concern of mine.

Note that people that aren't in the Toughbook world seem to drop by uninvited and give some information that is ALWAYS incorrect, wrong or impossible to attempt. This is just one more example. Please ignore this guy.

    Thanks

P.S, to be fair - upgrading ram to the max it can support (in this case a 1GB chip in the single slot that this unit has would be best).

Fair enough there... Is there, by chance a trial available? If not on the website, at least call them. Because these software companies understand that you wouldn't want to shell out lots of money, just to see that it potentially might not work...

Yes, the spec sheet that I had downloaded and getting my original info from was for the M734, when I went into the Control Panel of the actual unit it listed the processor at 1.6ghz.

So my original post was invalid to begin with. I'm sorry to waste everyone's time but I will be upgrading the RAM to 1GB, which the DeLorme map programming suggests as optimal for running the high content program.

Thanks again to everyone! Hey Rob, Got RAM?

It sounds like your "good to go"....if asking a question resolved your issue then nobody has wasted their time. :)

    Have fun.
