You see, now THIS is what I was talking about when I said it was not a project for the faint of heart. I used to do this crap for a living... got tired of waking up and still tasting the flux from the day before.

I KNOW what needs to be done. That's WHY I'm not doing it.

really have enjoyed the upgrading of the cf-51 duo laptop and was hoping for other toughbooks that would allow the cpu upgrade(like the cf-74 but NOT!). this IR dark device would let you swap a surface mount cpu but then again you gotta re-solder it. I am not anywhere near being in that league like the great dwagon is and some of the more gutsy members here. would sure like to see if it could be done..Driller

right now i am quite busy, but i will start offering the cpu upgrade in the near future. it will def be a few mths as right now im looking to open a store.

when that time comes i will make a post, as i will buy some older model TBs and practice on those. since each manufacturer uses different PCB, and TBs are expensive i want to be confident before i offer this to the members.

of course i will be very generous in price as i have gotten tons of info. this will be my way of paying the forum back.

actually i may start sooner, since the toughbooks are very easy to take a part. i just need to locate a few dirt cheap old models to practice on, i will simply remove the cpu from them and put lead solder and put them back, i wont actually upgrade the older models obviously but its the same process.

i also have accounts with the BGA machine manufacturers if anybody is interested :)
