Can I use this IBM ThinkPad AC adapter (FRU P/N: 02K6751) to charge my CF-29?

Long story short, my Toughbook CF-29's OEM AC adapter sucks (always has, sadly) and I can't afford to buy a new one right now. But I have some older ThinkPads and I've read that people have successfully used their chargers to charge CF-29s. The specs of this adapter are pictures; will this do?

if it has a yellow tip on the cord ... you're ok .

a little fyi ... note the output voltage of 16 volts ... this can actually range between 15.4 and 16.2 on the case .
most of the AC adapters range in the 19-21 volt area ... this will fry a TB .

the output current is not critical ...
the TB in question will consume only what it needs .
in the case of the lower output current devices and a TB that wants to consume more than the supply can provide , the charging rate will be low or non-existent .

Where you start running into problems with the IBM charger is newer toughbooks. I know the CF-74 Mk4, CF-52 with ATI, CF52 with 2.0 higher cpu have issues with it not because the voltage is wrong, but because those take 7 or 8 amp chargers. It's not enough to charge the computer while using it.

I have used that model IBM charger on a CF-29.

Great info that's a big help to me. I have recently come into a few "project" Toughbooks but only have 1 good power brick.

While we're on the topic of AC adapters, I have a few questions about another IBM one, a 12 Volt one (car adapter) made by Lind Electronics, Inc. in the USA for IBM Corporation (P/N 02K3382, FRU 02K3384, Input 12-16VDC, Output 16V == 3.5A).
    • Would this be compatible with my CF-29 MK3? I'm thinking that it might be too weak to charge the computer, but I'm not an electronics guru by any means.
    • How about a MK2 CF-19? My CF-19 wants 16V == 3.75A, which is almost exactly what this Lind adapter is capable of outputting (well, not quite, but close enough!).
Sometimes it'd be extremely handy to charge a Toughbook when I'm on the road, and hence why I'm considering buying this Lind adapter. (And hey, it's made in the USA, so there's likely some degree of QA involved, which can't be said for the cheapest Chinese knockoffs that eBay is full of...)

theres bargains to be had out there, I picked up a pair of PA1580 (Panasonic 15V 8 amp) Lind chargers on EBAY a few days ago for $40 including postage....

    @ ashley ...
with the first example , try it and see if the '29 charges .
with the '19 , there is a difference of 250mA ... not a heck of a lot ... it will charge a bit on the slow side ..
no matter which adapter is used , all of them should be capable of charging any of the compatible toughbook machines with the machine powered down ... some will be slower than others .

there are some 110VAC/12VDC input chargers/adapters available .
these will follow suit of their straight 110VAC brethren when it comes to charging capabilities .
there are a few of the dual input voltage units available on cheesebay ... they will be found under different search term combinations (including IBM and panasonic)
do not waster your money on those AC adapters that come with a half a fist-full of different sized ends that fit on the cord ... yeppers , that is exactly where they fail in short order .
