...if you are considering buying this "RARE" and "NICE" keyboard:

Toughbook CF-28 Backlit "RARE" Emissive Keyboard NICE with the `rare GREEN illuminated Keys.'

I have been having an e-mail "discussion" with BiggDaddy93 from "Emerald City" about his posted descriptions of Panasonic Toughbooks.

It started when I asked for a Model Number of a CF-29 Mk5 he was trying to sell.

When he sent me the Model Number of CF-29NTQGCBM, I asked him just what was "Factory Upgraded" about the unit and why he considered it to be "RARE."

He came back with "I did this by upgrading ram and changed hard drive sizes".

When I pointed out his ad's posted statement that it was "Factory Upgraded" and that the unit did, in fact, come equipped from the Panasonic factory with an 80GB Hard Disk Drive, and asked him if he considered himself to be a Panasonic Certified "Factory Upgrader," well, it was all "downhill" from there.

He came back with "the evdo is an factory upgrade and ram can be upgraded after the fact at the factory."

I won't post his insults to me (Forum Rules prohibit posting language such as that, you know ;)).

I just wrote him off as yet another ebaY Toughbook "expert."

Anyway, as this thread is titled: "Caveat emptor." :radar:

Thanks for the update, I saw those ad's as well, I chuckled to the "rare" designation he was giving to his items he was selling.

interesting communications with this "seller". had similar conversation with him myself a while back and was "impressed" by his knowledge on toughbooks. his last name wouldn't be Reid or Pelosi would it? glad these types believe in themselves cause I don't...........Driller

did he get the cf-28 green backlit keyboard to work on a cf-29? I guess I'm no sort of an expert cause I couldn't get it to work, since I bought six of them.......

    Hmmmm...
    From his auction:
"The units are Backlit and are 3 ribbon cable units units so your CF 28 must be compatable (sic) for 3 Ribbon Cable.
Units have been fully tested and cleaned and we will not be accepting any returns especially due to compatability(sic) issues or install issues"
Now how is it possible that this guy has 100% feedback if he actually sells these to the great unwashed public, I sold him a rubber backlit for a CF-M34 once, you should have seen how "rare" he thought that was. Underlining and spelling notes by me!

When I lived in King's Bay, we had a saying... "All the nuts roll downhill to Florida."

Just more evidence of that simple truth.

BigDaddy is a gasbag... His auctions are, to say the least, a bit dodgy. There's a bit that can be bait and switch... But most are outright crap. Everything he sells is VERY RARE! Then the options on what is available at certain prices can be confusing... But then everyone has a story....

You should of been around a year and a half ago
Rick gave away a few of those keyboards as they were next to useless , and later Springfield figured out a mod to get them working

Btw that seller is far from the worst I've seen

Sent him a message that these keyboards need an additional non-standard high voltage circuit. Otherwise they simply won't light up. Was trying to help avoid disappointed customers since he doesn't say it needs a special circuit that most CF-28's don't have.

Apparently customer satisfaction is not his strong suit . . .

No reason for any "customer satisfaction" concerns:

"... we will not be accepting any returns especially due to compatability issues or install issues" :( :mad2:

A lot of times if you talk very mature and assertively (not angry) to sellers with those disclaimers, they will back down and make it right. No one wants a Paypal claim or Ebay neg against them. I find the sellers who blatantly write that they don't know anything about the item have a better chance of being found in the right in a dispute.
The less information they post, the safer they are. Our society seems to protect morons.
Unfortunately, lots of people out there are not real bright or mature. I try and stop myself before I try to argue or explain anything to them. It's like arguing or explaining something to a 3 yr old. I mean you can, but why?? You will never win because they will never listen or comprehend. I don't have to prove that I am right anymore.

Would I rather be right or happy?

Yeah I know what you mean, world is too full of idiots to spend time trying to fix that. My message to that seller simply explained it wouldn't work without the additional circuit, hoping he would revise the description to avoid disappointed TB newbies. Oh well, 'nuf energy spent on that goofball.
