    I have an annoying problem.

When i connect the ac adapter, the laptop boots to windows.

I cant find anything in bios or in power management to prevent this

Any ideas how to disable this function ?

Today I received my first toughbook, a CF-18KEH01VE.
    In good condition too!
I have the same feature, have not yet got around to look at it.
Just to clarify, it starts the computer as if someone used the power switch.

It's a special version of BIOS which has an added feature called "AC Power on" - which means when AC power is applied (ie. external power plugged in and turned on) the unit proceeds to boot.

There are no options in the BIOS to turn this off or on (until you get on to CF-31 devices at which point the option is in the BIOS) - but you should be able to stop this from happening by reflashing the BIOS with a standard version.

This is primarily designed for units docked in the back of vehicles - so as soon as you start the ignition, which turns on the power to the Toughbook, the unit boots up (and obviously is set to turn off after 10 minutes or something of no external power).

    Hello,

i have also BIOS 4.00L13 but EC 4.30L13 and it don't boot when connecting the AC adapter. But I can't power on/off the wwan with the switch even if set in the BIOS to 'independent' - but i don't use the wwan modem.

    greetings

There are several EC updates. I'd try one of them. Maybe someone with a normal Mk4 can tell you what BIOS and EC versions they have.

    Hello,
attached is a zip file which contains everything You would need to make a dos-bootable usb stick - included is also the EC V4.30L13 firmware.
take a low capacity usb stick (256MB or so will do fine)

    1) extract everything to a folder
    2) run HPUSBFW_v2.2.3.exe, select FAT to format Your usb stick AND select the 'Boot_Files' directory for the 'Create a DOS startup...'.
    3) copy the content of 'EC_V430L13' to the usb stick.

shutdown, select the usb stick as bootdevice.
then run 'ecup.bat' to update the EC firmware.

!! it's not possible to go back to a lower level of EC firmware !! - well maybe it is but I don't know how.

    greetings
