    Next Dilemma

The CF-18 I have has an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network card installed. Unfortunately this does not seem to support WPA2, which is what I have on my wireless network.

I do have an Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection, which does, support WPA2 and I am wondering how easy (or difficult) it would be to change these cards over.

    Update windows to service pack3
(SP3 has improvements in wi-fi security)

Updated the 2200 driver to Ver:12.4.4.5/9.0.4.39
    Download Locations

    Specs show wpa2 support:

    Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection (Dual mode 802.11b/g)
Wi-Fi CERTIFIED* for single band, 2.4 GHz band, Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and WPA2*

Note: the 3945ABG is a mini pci-e card and will not work in the cf-18

Intel wireless card 3945ABG will not work in place of the 2200bg card as the 3945ABG card is pci epress and the 220gb card is mini pci. the two slots are diffrent.

Edit: ok Topcat beat me to it

    Thank you both,

while waiting for a response I found that the Intel Connection Utility I had was very out of date and after installing version 12, was able to connect to my network without any issues using WPA2!

I already had updated to SP3, and all the other updates which seemed to take most of Yesterday to download and install!

Thanks also for the tip about the differences between the cards, that was something new to me.

Great site for solving my problems, don't know how I would have mananged without it.

    Another little issue!

I visited one of my Daughter's last night and took the TB along. When I tried to connect to her wireless network I picked up between 5 and 6 other networks but not her's. Her network was up as I could connect with my iPhone and her iMac. Tried everything I could to pick up her network (B & G) but failed!
The other thing I notice now is that I have two wireless networks at home one B & G and the other B, G & N. My toughbook is not finding the one with N, but I assume it should as it also has B & G.

I recomend downloading inSSIDer, it is a software program that give's wi-fi network info

    inSSIDer Wi-Fi Scanner | MetaGeek

The wireless N router might be configured to output N only
You would need to configure the router to brodcast B.G

Final saga on this issse. Having now upgraded yesterday to W7 I would like to use the INTEL Connection Utility for the 2200BG.

I must have now tried at least 10 times and I just cannot get one to install?

A pointer to where to download the correct version would be of great help.

    Thanks again.

    No good news here: :(

Q: What if I have an Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection or Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection installed on my PC?

    A: The Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection and Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection are not supported on Windows 7*.

    Update:

I now have Windows 7 running, but I stiil was only finding one of two my wireless networks. I installed inSIDDer 2.0 and ran it, and it was still bringing up one network.
I decided to check out the wireless router which is a BT Homehub 2 (UK & BGN) and checked the channel setting, which was set to automatic. I reset this to a fixed channel and it appeared in inSIDDer, reset it back to automatic and it now showing up every time in the taskbar as well as inSIDDer.

A little more on this issue, as it may help others.
My CF-18DDB25ME, is (I assume) a European model, therefore I also assume that the WLAN is capable of 13 channels (NA=11 and Japan=14) according to the specification. However I found that my problem with picking up both of these networks was that one was manully set to channel 13, and the other one (automatic setting) was also putting out on channel 13 (Thank you inSIDDer!).
Changed the channel setting on both and each one was picked up!
