Looking to upgrade to an SSD in my MK6 and wanted to know what SATA is used in the MK6?

I've got a mk6 model 1HC51SL with sata3 chip and sata2 throttle at ~180 Mbytes over here.
It may or may not be possible to hack it up to sata3.
Expect cpu and ram performance to be also throttled to 80% of regular speeds.

i have found that (generally) on ebay that the price of *used* sata2 ssds is not that much cheaper than sata3 units .
the sata2 stuff is getting a bit dated and this means (to my notion) a greater chance of failure or a defective unit .
i have bought many used sata3 ssds on ebay and have not gotten a bad one .
a point though is to be watchful for sellers that do not know the difference between the two , err honestly when posting and , plain and simple outright mislead the buyer .
i received a ssd that was purported to be sata3 and the reality was that it was a sata2 unit ...
the seller made good on it and stated that the photo was a "representative unit" and the unit i had came from a box of "pulls" ... it slipped through . -
Yep. Might as well take advantage of the newer controllers and NAND chips.

Thanks for the replies, Was mainly using it as consideration on the brand to go with. So without Sata3 there's no point in getting a samsung 850 when a Mushkin or OCZ will still be able to max out the controller.

In my opinion, speed isn't everything. Reliability is important. SLC is usually more reliable than MLC for example. Some
disksdrives will have more bit errors or reallocate more sectors than others after a certain amount of terabytes are written during its lifetime.Last edited: Nov 19, 2016Shawn likes this. -
As a toughbook user, you're probably concerned with reliability and TCO,
which is why a Samsung SSD might still be a good choice.

BTW: SLCs do not seem to be inherently more reliable than MLCs, at least in datacenter environments.

what i have found/gleaned personally , is that the prices of the samsung stuff (used-ebay) is generally a few bucks higher than the other brands .
the "rebranded" samsung drives are just as good as the regular samsung drives ... except that you will not be able to use the samsung cloning software ...
not to fear as good , easy to use and free cloning software is available .
samsung seems to have become the *defacto* type of drive to have if you want longevity , stability and long term value .
there are several other brands listed on ebay ... some sellers are absolutely nuts when it comes to prices , and this includes the samsung sellers .
let the guys with deep pockets and no experience or education on the matter buy the high-dollar , out of range and misrepresented merchandise .
as always , from time immemorable , education will save one from "thinning out" their wallet needlessly .
