Hi all my new to me Mk4 was fitted with:

    Samsung DDR3-1333 SODIMM 2GB
    M471B5773CHS-CH9
    Type: DDR3 SODIMM
    Capacity: 2GB
    Speed: PC10600 1333MHz
    Size & Bit: 256M x 8
    Pins: 204pin
    ECC: No
    Registered: No
    Chip: Samsung
    CL 9

I told the guy in the shop I needed an upgrade to 8Gb, he gave me 2x:

    Kingston DDR3-1333 SODIMM 4GB/512Mx64
    KVR13S9S8/4
    Type: DDR3 SODIMM
    Capacity:4GB
    Speed :pC10600 1333MHz
    Size & Bit: 512M x 64
    Pins:204pin
    ECC:No
    Registered:No
    Single Rank x8
    CL 9, 1.5V

with 1 x 2Gb original stick the machine boots and runs fine, in bios and windows reports 2Gb mem.

With the 2 x 4Gb replacement sticks the machine boots and runs fine, in bios and windows reports 8Gb mem.

Now here's the problem, if i fit just 1 of the 4gb stick the machine will not boot ?

I was having a problem loading a fresh install of w7 and someone said maybe its the mem, after finding out that it wont boot with either of just 1 of the 4Gb sticks that could be the problem

Anyone know if this replacement is compatible or what the problem is ?

    Thanks

It's just a question of bits and bytes. 512MB x 8 in fact. It's ok.
It's strange but maybe Kingston tuned it that way it works only in dual channel mode. Maybe.
Yes, this replacement is compatible. I have same memory in my MK4.
    The problem is unknown :)
Try to install both modules and follow my advice in that previous topic.
Or you can install that Win7 with your old 2GB module and after installation replace memory with 2x4GB.

    P.S.
    FYI, it was Shawn :)

    Thanks for the info.

Problem is it was not just the w7 that didnt install OK, ive got a 1Tb hard drive fitted and partitioned up, some of the programs, (Ive installed before on the Mk3) took ages to install, when I say ages there was a very big wait after clicking install before the program started to install, Im sure that was down to the mem.

I am guessing a bit here but, the Kingston is high density. You may need low density.

Low density will have 8 chips on each side and will cost a bunch more.

Buy Crucial and be done with it. I have run Crucial RAM for years and have had no issues. (But I did have to run Kingston in the old CF-28s)
