Picked up this MK2 on the auction block. Listed as NO hard drive, battery, charger, OS, wireless.
Popped in a spare hard drive/caddy with Win 7 and plugged her in. There actually was a battery inside with a stainless steel cllp on corner over edge of battery compartment so the battery could not be removed. It has hazardous Class 1 Division 2 warning stickers on keypad. I could not get the configurator to work however it seems to be a Digitizer model with wireless & blue tooth. A google search found this info:
[h=1]*Vista COA* Intel Core 2 Duo U7500 1.06Ghz (Centrino), 10.4" XGA with Digitizer, 80GB, 2GB, Intel 802.11a/b/g, Dual pass through, WinXP Tablet, TPM1.2, Bluetooth, No Optical, UL1604 Haz Loc[/h]All in all, for the price & specs a nice find. Anyone with information on this model appreciated.
    Best regards, Cleve

Thanks! What/why do some like the "digitizer" model over "touch"? I've always wanted to ask that.

Ehh.... I feel like I've gone into this a BILLION times. But here it is for a 1,000,000,001th time:

Because I use Micro$oft OneNote to keep track of my job and you NEED a digitizer to do such things... That's just me personally.

Thanks, I have zero knowledge of digitizers, but will read up. Are you saying the digitizer models are better thAN TOUCH because they last longer and seldom break? I'll also have to read up on MicroSoft One Note program. Thanks all.

    In my opinion,
Digitizers are much better for drawing or hand written notes. Touchscreens do have a higher failure rate. The downside of digitizers is that you must use a stylus. I don't really consider it much of a downside.

I have both. If I would have to choose it would be very hard.
First, touch is resistive touch, like on a tomtom one, not capacitive like you're iphone. That makes a big sensory difference for the user. Advantage is that you can use it in the rain, with greasy or dirty fingers, disadvantage is that it's less accurate, although I always use my index-finger-nail and that is pretty dead-on. I use the touch for scrolling, pointing and other small things. It's the biggest trackpad I ever had. But it's not very useful for marking things, selecting text, making autographs etc.

That is where the digitizer comes in handy. I don't use OneNote like Rob, but I do use it instead of a mouse and when I'm in a lazy mood, hang in a hammock and use my 19 in tablet mode. I use it for marking things in documents, checking flags etc. The kind of precision work that is impossible with a big, fat, greasy finger.
I know old units (mk1-mk3 on the CF-18???) have a relative high failure rate, but the CF-19 mk3, mk4 and mk5 have no problems afaik. Aks me again in a couple of years :)

So if my CF-19 gets nicked, bombed or is just worn out, I would choose Dual Touch all over again. Best of both worlds.

Dual touch FTW! (What Alec said)

They each have their purpose though. If I wasn't ever taking notes then for SURE I'd have to have a touchscreen! My wife used my CF-19 while we were driving on a road trip over the 4th and she found it rather annoying when she was used to poking at the screen with her finger and couldn't on mine. But then again, the main purpose is NOT to watch movies on road trips, it's to get work done!

I know that! I'm ever and always poking at dumb screens on laptops that don't have touch-screens. My wife's Macbook pro from 2011, my friends macbook air. I even did it at an iMac, but you do really get used to touch.

I've always been at LEAST 10 years ahead of the stupid public.

I've been using Touchscreens on laptops for 9+ years now starting with my CF-29 in April of 2004... People were like "Why do I need a touchscreen on my laptop, that's stupid"... I just go "ehhhhh!!!!!!!!!!" and said, "One day your feeble brain will catch up". BLITHERING IDIOTS I TELL YOU!

Ohh and yeah, I was the FIRST to have the latest Palm's too. Everyone made fun of me for having a Palm when they all had little flip phone Motorola Razr's... STUPID, JUST STUPID... They said "Why do you have a Palm, that's lame"... I said... Hmmm... Lets see Mr. Feeble brain: 1) It has a god d@mn keyboard. 2) It has a huge TOUCHSCREEN!!!!!!!. Response: "That's stupid". No... no, it's NOT stupid buddy....

Here we are, almost 10 complete years later and EVERYONE has TOUCH on EVERYTHING!!!! Phones, computers, printers, "e-readers", vehicles... Hell, even our new Keurig COFFEE MAKERS have TOUCHSCREENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    EDIT
Sorry this post is so angry. I'm just tired and cranky! But I hope you all understand where I'm coming from :).

Quick update. I appreciate all your (above) thoughts, thank you! Now that I have two MK2"s working well, I went ahead and installed Linux Mint 15 on a spare SSD 120 GB HD. This will become my "travel" hard drive for work. Mint installed quickly and everything "just works"! The Digitizer has spoiled me somewhat, and I even figured out how to get Netflix to work by doing a Google Search. Now there is NO reason to dual boot for me ("why do I keep all those Win7 hard drives"?). I sure do appreciate the ToughBook Community, Thanks again!
