I Have Seen Some Pix Of Cf-27's With A Buile In Antennae, It Seems To Be Attached To The Lid. Was This An Option, Or Is This Something That Can Be Ought And Installed. Also, I Recently Purchased A Couple Of Cf-27's From Capt. Dogfish, Great Deal And Now That I Have Them Set Up For Wireless Internet (using Cisco Systems Card) I Think They Will Work Out Just Great (one For My Son, Who Thinks It Is Cool, One For Me To Use Outside Etc.) Also, They Need To Be Touched Up A Bit Cosmetically, Is It Possible To Paint Or Touch These Up? If So, What Is The Color And What Type Of Paint Would Be Good.

    Thanks,

    Ddaymen

    Now 3 Cf-27's

If it looks like a cell phone antenna it's a wwan antenna. More info on those HERE. Yes it is possible to paint them but it can be extremely dangerous. In order to get paint to stick you need to sand all the paint off that is on there now, but any magnesium dust (what the case is made out of) can be ignited and cause an explosion. After you get all the paint off you'll need to use an etching primer in order to get it to stick really good and you'll have to do it right after you are done sanding as bare metal oxidizes quickly. after that you can paint. If you need any more info on the painting drop me a line.

The antenna could be for the old RIM modem, it’s a standard not used anymore
Don’t remove the antenna however as you could possibly adapt it to a wi-fi card

Thanks For The Info Everyone, Looks Like I'm Just Going To Have To Use My Wireless Card. As For The Painting Bit, It Sounds Dangerous/complicated, So I'll Just Leave It As It Is (battle Scars?)

Again, Thanks For The Help! This Web Site Has Helped Me Tremendously In My Quest To Learn More About My Toughbook.

Oh Yeah, Another Question: Is The Light-up Key Board An Option Still Available? I Think It Would Be A Benefit, For My Use Anyway.

    Dwight,
The backlit rubber keyboard will work in CF-27s. You can probably pick one up for around $50 on eBay. I may have said this before, look in your CF-27 file on one of the machines for Supplement 19, it details the antenna installation.

Thanks For The Info! I'll Look On Ebay. As For The Cf 27 Files, I Tried To Open Them, But Was Not Successful, Don't Know Why I Could Not Open It, No Doubt I'm Not Doing Something Right!

    Dwight,
You can't open the file folder or you can't open the service manuals? Did I forget to load Adobe reader?
