Got a CF-27 with no HD or caddy...

Guess first step is to get hold of a caddy. What sort of HDD does it take? I dont recognise the interface type?

You can find a caddy on ebay for 10 to 20 dollars, and you will need a laptop drive with a 44 pin PATA interface.

Do you need a part number or do you need a caddy? You aren't going to get one of these from Panasonic.

Unfortunately, my employer will only purchase parts from its preferred supplier. Way it works is we provide them with an official part no and they find it.

LOL. The red tape of big companies !!!!!!

Usually I wait 4 weeks and then find out it cost 3x more than I could have got it for off ebay. Sometimes if its cheap I just buy it myself to save all the hassle !!!!

Your employer is providing you a CF-27 for work?

That's 3 generations old, probably 10-12 years ancient technology. Tell them to pony up and get a CF-31 or CF-30. If they are too cheap then get yourself a nice CF-29 for around $400. You work will likely suffer from all the hassles of trying to do anything more than web surfing with an ancient CF-27.

That said, watch fleaBay and you can find a CF-27 caddy for around $15-$20, sometimes less.

Well, I suggest you start ponying up because if your "approved vendor" can find a CF-27 caddy new the price is going to be way North of $100, way more than the value of a functioning CF-27. My offer of a brand new caddy for $10 + shipping ($4.95) stands. You might want to do a little research here on the forum, these aren't Dell computers, and the parts, purchased from Panasonic, are not cheap. Panasonic has not supported the CF-27 for at least 6 years.

    IMHO -

You've already spent more time and hassle here on this forum than that Win98 5-6 generations out of date powerhouse is worth. Unless you have a use-specific need (datalogging, special diag software, etc) that requires this ancient hardware, you'll be better off using it for a doorstop or stepstool than trying to even surf the web with it.

The WWW now uses so much high-bandwidth media that wasn't even IMAGINED when that thing was made it will choke on any modern website; even this one will take ages to load.
