Hi all. I have been visiting the forum for a while learning from everyone. A few months ago I bought a CF-27 on E-bay. It was slow but I was happy to have my first toughbook. I decided to order some memory and installed 256 card to replace the 64K I had. That was a big boost but still didn't seem to keep up with a Windows 2000 OS.

I was searching online and found people using USB Sticks as the place to store pagefile. I thought, why not try it? Bought a 4 Gig USB from Wallmart ($9.98), connected it to the usb, and set the pagefile to store to the USB. I noticed a huge improvement in speed!

You may want to give it a try. There are allot of tutorials on the web.

FYI....Forums stated that they were unable to get it to work on XP.

Just thought I would share if there is anyone struggling with the speed of their older tough books.

Welcome to the forum. I know that ReadyBoost will not work on XP but some use a program called eboost on XP but I could not tell you how that works.
Thanks for the info, this should help some of the CF-27 owners out there.

One thing you have to remember that the usb port on the CF-27 is usb 1.0 which is slow by todays standards. You can put a usb PCMCIA card in the slot to get usb 2.0 but if you want it to all be internal then you will have to do some surgery on the PCMCIA card so that you can put you usb stick inside the toughbook which is what we all strive to do with our mods.

I have a copy of eboostr and have used it with my cf-28 mk2 before my ram up grade just to try it out some. With the usb 1.0 it didn't work very well. Computer seemed to run slower than before. I never tried it through the PCMCIA. I have used it on other computers though with usb 2.0 and it seemed to work well. Remember to use a high speed usb stick if you try it and i haven't got the newest version, but the trial was set up so you could use it for 3 hrs and then it shut off. When you rebooted your computer you could use it again for 3 hrs.
