My Cf-28 that I purchased off ebay just arrived today and I was wondering if any of the wizards here can tell me how this computer was configured when it was new? The # is CF-28PTJA8KM. Thank you in advance. Hoping to do some upgrades in the future.

    It had/has a cisco "B" wi-fi card built-in using the ext antenna
I don't like them as its a very old card
+ The pcmcia card that you see
Three prong ac adapter, rather that a two prong ac adapter

Hey new2cf-28, welcome to the ToughBook forum !!

The factory wifi card only supports 802.11"B" not the faster "G" more common today. It would be installed in the hidden 3rd PC-card slot. To test if you unit has this, press Fn+Tab. That will toggle power on/off to the 3rd PC-card slot, which should cause the OEM Cisco wifi card to appear and disappear from the task bar.

The OEM wifi antenna will work with newer B & G wifi cards, which you can install in the mini PCI slot under the hard drive. Read some threads here and see which mods might interest you.

Ahhh... Spring beat me to it.

Good machine to start with; can only get better with a little modding!

I'm with Mnem... You have a GREAT CF-28 to learn on... And learning should be fairly inexpensive. And you will enjoy yourself.... And you ill get the "disease" and you will buy more....

You got a great model to mod... Please read the stickies! You'll LOVE it.
