is there a way to make the screen stretch the image instead of having big black borders on the cf-28?
EDIT: I have also notice my mk3 has nicer more vibrant colors than my earlier mk1/2 touch screen version. is that just the age of the screens or is it caused by the digitizer? They both have that weird blue/purple color if the screen is off and at the right angle.
-
Usually the mk1 and 2 have a 800x600 pixels screen with transflective film, mk3 instead usually have 1024x768 screen with only the touch panel on it, the transflective give that red-less color but give you the opportunity of using it outside, i tried with a mk3 without the TF panel outside and is unlookable.
PS What do you mean with black border ? You have a portion of the screen that is not used ? Have you put a 1024x768 panel on an old machine like mk1 ? I tried and the computer worked but not recognized the FULL screen only 800x600 and left the black margin on right side and bottom side. -

the bios is pretty bleak. both units are 1024x800. i know for sure one is an mk3 with 512mb ram and 1ghz tualatin. the other is 256mb onboard ram with 800mhz p3, touch screen and 1024x800 res and washed out/poor color.
EDIT: the 800mhz washed out color one is a CF-28PTJAZQM -
All of the 13.3" models should be 1024 x 768 and all of the 12.1" screen should be 800 x 600 max resolution. It should be able to go higher on external video.
-
Mhh very strange a 13.3 panel have washed out colors... The 800 Mhz is a mk2, the 1Ghz is mk3 and the 600mhz is mk1.
Nothing in bios ?
For the color, well, the screen doesn't get old, at least not the panel, can be a very old lamp, try to change it with a new one, but pay attention, the lcd screen is very fragile, i cracked down one while changing the lamp on it, they are cheap but hard to find. -
well i'm going to combine the two. in to one nice one with 1ghz tualatin, 512mb ram, touch, best screen of the two, gps and add internal wifi. any reason i can't do that? also is the rubber backlight keyboard kind of stiff for any one else or is the age of the rubber? the mk3 has normal non back light keyboard. the is the normal keyboard on the mk3 rugidized? might stick with the noraml keyboard as it's hard to type and play games with the rubber one.
-
All of the CF-27,28,29,30,31 rubber keyboards are stiff, just how they are. The other two options for the CF-28 is the white standard chicklet and black emissive keyboard (it requires a special "texas board" to work).

If your prefer white/grey above black keys, you might also be able to use the white/grey keyboard of a CF-27 for your CF-28s...

Yes, i use an aftermarket italian keyboard purchased in UK by a seller, originally y 28 was fit with the white/grey KB, but key was kinda uncomfortable to me and too weak, just to say, when i was cleaning the KB (white) with a piece of cloth a key jumped out and broke its plastic support, my KB now has smooted corner on keys, so when i clean, keys stay where thy should stay eh eh.
I agree for the "Frankenstein" of the two computer, so you can have a best one from the two, i made the same thing some time ago, now i sold either them, to purchase my new 19. -
PS If you want to use an aftermarket wifi board, you can use almost everything on the market, i tried at least 3 different cards in either my 2 laptops (28) and all of them worked properly, just make sure to obtain driver support fro the manufacturer.
-
the mk3 already has white grey KB as long as it's decent quality i might just use it instead. I also have a wifi card for it, not to sure if regular laptop antennas will work to well the magnesium lid? do i need to install the extendable antenna?
-
I use to roll up standard antenna under the battery slot and it would pick up as long as you were close. It did really cut the signal down though.
-
is the battery location the best location or is that just your observation? maybe one antenna in the under the battery and one in the lid?
-
I usually put the antenna in the two plastic cover on the two sides then routes the wire to the wifi card. This usually give me excellent signal like a normal laptop.
-
There are better places. That was just a quick and easy fix because it was for the kids laptops at the time and the only time they got on the internet was to play games in the house. The factory wifi is a pcmcia card in the hidden slot and a whip anteanna. I have heard some have tried it behind the screen and it work. Also some routed it to the plastic piece where the factory GPS goes and put the main end of the antenna there.
-
Yes, i followed this way and works good.
-
i'm going to be installing the GPS as well since i have it. wonder if that will weaken the signal. i also wonder if i will be able to to get a decent gps program in linux or if linux will even have all the drivers. I was/am wanting to install Lubuntu as it would use less ram than windows xp especially since XP practically HAS to have anti Virus and Anti Virus uses up more ram.
-
I have seen a few gps programs offered in ubuntu, since lubuntu can use ubuntu software that will give you some options. Also do some research on what gps program that will work under wine.
-
NO gps work at 1575 Mhz, wifi and bluetooth works at 2450 Mhz, so theres almost 1Ghz of difference, in other words there's no conflict between them.
