Dont bid on items while you are hung over from working too long in the desert.

Just got back from the field (105 hrs in 9 days). One of my work mates and his wife are getting ready to head down to Peru for Archeology work and asked me to put together a cf-29 toughbook package for them. Ive of course been scanning ebay and talking to my source in the Pacific Northwest. Saw a 29 mk1 on ebay...looked good and placed a bid, went to bed and woke up in the middle of the night  realizing that the item description did not include model # beyond cf-29 and no internal wireless or touchscreen options were noted. Yep! Im the high bidder on a machine I dont need. I need one of those little smilies graphics here that somehow says dumb@ss! I have the correct machine on the way but may also end up with this other one as well.

All well! My first ebay screwup...it was bound to happen sooner or later.

The bidding is still open for another 7ish hours so I may be in the clear. The bidding is currently $510 but my max bid is $655. My concern is that the bidding may not go that high because it is nontouch and non wireless. On the positive side it has a 60gb hhd and a ram upgrade but this mk1 only has 256 on the mobo.

On a different note. I want to apologize about my inappropriate language used in my thread title and post . The language was only insinuated but still obvious enough to be reprimanded by JohnB. Again, sorry.

I didnt think it would offend anyone but I guess I broke the rules enough to get the ruler across the hands.

Someone out bid me by $10 on that Mk1...never been so happy to be outbid.

You did know that you can cancel your bid if it has over 12 hours? Also you should be able to lower your bid, but I am not sure its been a while. You should have cancelled when you woke up that was your chance, now you may be screwed.

Ya, I did not want to cancel because I didnt want a black mark on my ebay record. I tried to reduce the bid but could not find an option to do so. I figured i would just chalk it up to experience and resell the mk1 or use to to thinker with for mods. It all panned out and i was out bid.

You can retract your bid if there are more than 12 hours left. It's not a black mark on your record but Ebay will limit you to 6 retractions in a 3 month period, I think. If an auction that I have bid on starts to look "hinky" like sellers not answering questions, then I will retract my bid without a second thought.

I didn't know that you could do that. Guess it shows how much I pay attention.

Its a good feature as I have used it twice myself. One shouldnt use often, but in your case you would be justified. People make mistakes and we shouldnt ALWAYS be punished for them. Heck our leaders get away with everything, why not us? lol
