I have a CF-29 mk4 and it has a factory installed GPS. I can't get it to work with delorme earthmate 2008 which I have installed for the USB antenna/receiver that comes with the program. In the options page it wants to know the manufacturer of the module and what com port it is using. Anyone got any ideas?

Look in Devce Manager and see what COM ports are used... Your GPS is most likely on COM3 but may be on CON2 or 4...
You can also download a utility to test the GPS to make sure you see data streaming as well as satellite strength... You can download VisualGPS or WinFast Navigator... Both are free! -
don't know about the software, but went into bios and got mine working when went to com3 and set gps for auto, was using visualgps myself, I'm sure some of the other sages can help out here as there's lots in the threads already. just poke around and read , tons of info here, might be easier to find some with google that will get quicker info from this forum, good luck , all will welcome you to the forum,......Driller

one of the guys said that you had to go outside to a clear sky and let unit sit for a few minutes to acquire sats, seem to recall that I disabled the auto in bios, loaded software, then went rebooted in bios and enabled auto on gps, I only used the visualgps just to see if got any streaming data and it worked, hopefully yours will work too, what is the full model id on your laptop? might give more info for someone else to add, ......Driller

First question, have you ever seen any data from the GPS on this computer?
Secondly, what are the default settings for the Delorme USB GPS, and are they the same as for the OEM Panasonic GPS. The Delorme information should be easy to find, someone here will know the settings for the Panasonic. There should be an option in the Delorme software for you to manually set the parameters for your GPS.
Finally, you don't need to acquire any satellites for Visual GPS to see the GPS. Even better is the little app from USGlobalSat called GPS Info. It will scan all of your com ports and let you know where your GPS is talking to. The usual stuff will apply, enable the GPS in bios, etc. Good luck.

Can't Find The Link For Gps Info At Usglobalsat.com. Do You Have A Link? Thanks!

Go to USGlobalSat web site and navigate to the BU-353W page. The next to last .zip file in the downloads section, WIN XP GPS Info Utility, is what you're looking for.

Toughbookjunkie- Are you selling any of these laptops? Please let me know if you are and how much they would be. I am in Arizona. I am liking for one to set up with my Delorme Earthmate PN-40 and Topo 9.0 and do geocaching with it. Thank you and I look forward to your reply. Have a great and safe day/evening!
Sincerely,

I would look up Winfast Navigator... Download it.
You looked into the BIOS and set the GPS to Auto?
Then install and open WinFast (Free download)
OPen it up... Set it to COM3 @ 4800 Baud. (A window will pop up... If THAT is wrong... Try COM4 @ 4800 Baud) But it should be COM3 @ 4800.....
Look into the upper right corner an see if you have data flow. You should see a BUNCH of letters and numbers streaming by. That means your GPS ENGINE is working. Next you have to check your antenna. If you see data flow... Charge up your battery and let it sit outside with a CLEAR view of the sky... Not on a porch... Not under roof.... sit it out in your back yard with NO trees. Let it sit for 15 minutes if you have to. The OEM units can take some time to get their first lock after major battery drain. Be patient.
Do all that and let us know...
Good luck! -
