I've been to the config site. Read about 700 threads or so (what a trip) and still have a question. Do any of you'all have any insight into the CF-29LAQGZBM.

I'm using a CF-29HTM50BM, been researching "speed" etc. actually I just need to figure out a few part numbers and place an order; bigger drive or two possibly three. Another thing I've been looking at is RAM. That's a bit confusing as some of the posts are a little old. I"ll keep muddling through.

I have a second CF-29 lost in Fedex's system for the last two weeks and think I need another Toughbook.

Plus my wife likes the keyboard as she learned typing in high school when they taught such a thing.

    Thanks in advance.

    Gork!

What exactly is your question? You seem to want information, but have not asked for it specifically.

My third sentence in which I failed to add a question mark.
    1.Have you used one?
2.Does the lack of weatherproofing on the keyboard create a real problem?
3.How is power consumption compared to the unit I have now?
    4.Any recurring maintenance/repair issues?
    Something like that.

I have a similar 29 - 1.6 with emissive kb - the board is waterproof enough for me to use it under a running tap and in the pouring rain! :)

I also have a cf-29 1.4 and the battery life is much the same about 10 hours with yellow battery + MP battery

speed wise, well the 1.4 is best running XP and my 1.6 runs Win7 Pro lovely :)

    Hope that helps!

'preciate it y'all. Got my second HTM50BM this one from Geeks today. Fedex had a ball with it had about 'leven stickers on it. Holding off on the LAQ for now. I must say that was a nice unit thanks Geeks. New yellow tag battery, hard-drive looks new, new battery charger best $350+shipping I ever spent.
I'm going to concentrate on upgrading the 2 HTM50's a little but I honestly must say I'm scared to ask any questions. I'm afraid to get the old read the F.A.Q. answer. I think I read 'em all and things are still not clear.
Some say you can add a gig of ram etc other things I've read say they have a limit. What's the bottom line? With maybe a part number? I think it is important to read, study etc. but sometimes the overwhelming amount of information is ...well....overwhelming. I'll talk to a friend about upgrading the hard drives. He had great success with his.
One more...Soldering the DVD. Is that still happening or what? Could you direct me to the first post on the subject. I guess I didn't read them all.
    I appreciate the input.

This was from the first sticky The CF-29 F.A.Q. - Read me before posting . Check out Robs....he has some great pictures to guide you on your first mod. This tutorial was done by toughbook " NBR Modder-ator " :D .

    DVD/CDROM Drives

The CF-29 uses the same DVD/CDROM modular system as the CF-27 & CF-28; it slips into a MultiMedia bay which can also accept the 1.44MB floppy module or an additional extended run battery. Toughbook has an excellent tutorial on upgrading that CDROM Module to the latest DVD/RW technology HERE:

And Rob is hosting a version WITH all the photos here:

    Blair,
I think I had seen three of these but your putting them on one page brought a lot of it together for me. I may have even learned something.
    Thank you.
