Hello, my first post. humm, ill start by saying this thing is awesome....
I just purchased a CF-30CQQCZBM. Is this a MK1 2 3 ? Just wondering.
Anyway, i just installed the fingerprint reader.COOL right. along with the GPS bump and everything else the kids call it the SPYcomputer. Back to my problem,,, I installed drivers. the device does show up in Devices and printers as: Biometric Coprocessor, ok so in bios i enabled the security setting to allow the reader to prompt for a scan at startup. Now heres the problem. How do i setup the reader to accept my fingerprint? The box that pops up allows me to attempt a fingerprint read, it doesnt reconize my print. next it asks for a password, i leave it blank the next screen allows me to enter my bios password. after all that windows starts normal.
Im sorry if this has been covered before, if so please direct me to the thread.
Thanks, John

It's mk1.....
-
Ok Thanks.
It only has 30 hours according to bios.
I'm learning more about it. Any ideas on the scanner??? -
Did you check the manual? You can download them for free.
-
The drivers are installed. And it's recognized as a device. I'll print off the manual. Just need to figure out how to set a fingerprint.

Welcome to the Panasonic Toughbook forum
Not a lot of talk about the fingerprint read on here but we do have one member from UK that bought a new reader from me for his CF-19. He did the install and setup himself so he might be able to help you out.
If you want to learn more about your CF-30 MK1 check this out.

You need to install the software package also. Not just the drivers. The software is called Protector Suite .

Alecgold is the member that might be able to help you out. He has a CF-19 but he did install/setup
himself. You will need 5 post to PM him.

Hey did someone call me??
If you have 5 posts, pm me your email and I'll find a way to FTP you the protector suite 2012. That's the latest version and works best IMHO.
The protector suite is actually pretty cool, not just authorization for logins, but you can also us it to start programs, scroll trough documents etc.
One other small tip: on the 19 there is a flap protecting the fpr sensor. I use it about 25-50 times a day and this flap did wear down in a few months, causing a crack in the part that screws down to the chassis and keeps everything together. I now replaced that and left the protection out. Has been about a month ago, so far, so good.
Overall the fpr is really handy if you live with behind your laptop and need to keep it safe from curious eyes. You can lock it with the fpr, unlock it and use idiotic long passwords without the need to type them 25-50 times a day. -
Google "Toughbook Drivers" and go to the PANASONIC website... Select your model and download the Protector Suite. Install it and it will prompt you to "enroll" your fingerprints upon reboot!
If you loaded W7... You will want the Vista Driver... You will also want to run the BIOS upgrade as you cannot load the "Misc" driver if you do not first update the BIOS.
I am loading 3 CF-30 MK1 units as I type this on my CF-31 now... One has the fingerprint reader on it and it works like a champ now!
BTW... Welcome to the forum. I am just warning you now that pretty soon you will forget about fixing up your car and most likely forget your wife's birthday because you have gotten fixated on Toughbooks! Just a warning... And, uh....

Thank you all for the welcome! I just logged on. I'll go through all the info just received. I'm pretty sure I don't have the protector suite. But something pops up called "security made simple" swipe finger to authorize access.....

Another post to reach 5 so I can pm. Hope it works
-
Ok. I'll try to pm you. Thanks in advanced. -
Keep us posted! -
what pops up is the firmware from the FPR chip, but it needs to be told first which finger is which and that is done in the protector suite.
JPEME your email address is not working, its bouncing with a "user unkown".
Also for others that might stumble upon this:
What I did was:
Boot laptop
install the protector suite first
boot laptop
register fingers in protector suite
boot and test if fpr is working.
Some of the boots might not be needed, but better safe than sorry.
Protector suite can be found here:
Official Support Download Center of the Drivers, Manuals and FAQs | TOUGHBOOK | TOUGHPAD | Panasonic Global Notebook PC
follow this link for the W7 32 bit version
The 64 bit version is there as well.
Download the software, run it.
When it exits it's just copied the files, IT IS NOT YET INSTALLED!!!
Go to: C:\util2\drivers\fngprint\install\32-bit\setup.exe
Run that setup and you’ll get protector suite!toughasnails, Shawn and Mxx20 like this. -

Thanks, it's working! I didn't update the bios, but it's up and running. Hummmm now what to lock behind a print..
-
nice! good to hear it is working!
Getting a new FPR is really costly, IIRC $370, but seeing the amount of use it gets, it's really worth it.
And because the company that makes these has been acquired by Apple, I wouldn't be surprised if they are no longer available in the near future.
That being said, if I where to get a new cf-19 it would be the third priority in upgrades, right after HDD-->SSD and the memory to 8Gb. Or perhaps 4th after the emissive keyboard. They are expensive too btw. Toughbooks can be an expensive hobby...

Thanks everyone. Now I need to track down the antenna bump. And the hummm card to go inside.
-
hahaha, you've got bitten by the toughbug pretty bad
Keep going and you'll be changing mk5 and mk7 interiors soon too...
but I have to say it is pretty scary. -
It's just a notebook computer...It's not open heart surgery....
Worst case scenario.....you have to replace whatever you caught on fire.....Then write about in here so we can all laugh........
That's an idea for a thread......maybe on the "other" board....... -
Any one know if cf-29 and 30 parts will interchange? Found a wwan antenna for a cf29
-
yeah, but replacing parts can be pretty expensive. Not to say I won't have my work laptop for weeks if not months because there are hardly any parts available for mk7's If it's your third, or fourteenth laptop it's annoying, but your one and only preciousssss?
-
I just purchased 2 parts computers. 1 cf19 and 1 cf30. Should be good for As bit
-
The 29 has the antenna and wwan
-
Antenna's shouldn't be to tricky, if they physically fit, it won't be a problem I guess?
-
That's what I was wondering of it will physically fit on the screen cover and such. Guess I'll find out soon.

The antenna rod will fit. However the plastic corner piece from a CF29 will NOT fit on a CF30.
-
B4 you buy anything.....check with Shawn. If he doesn't know, he knows where to look.
