Don't start shouting to search the forum. I did. I was curious about cloning the new hd and removal and install. I bought a WD 7200 to put in. Used Acronis to clone. Did not see the reason for three drives that was mentioned. Installed the WD in the external caddy, hooked it all up and initiated cloning. Before I started hd install I wanted to review removal. I can't really find anything on the 30. What I would really like is another caddy but really have not seen any available. I would like to go over the dismount procedure if anyone has any input.

That is the hd and caddy. Thanks for the quick reply. I will do a search for service manual. Did not think of that.

    Ice,
Its not enough different from the 28 and 29 to worry about. Just go slow and take pictures if you think you need them. It would be hard to get wrong absent an excessive amount of lubrication.(that's you, not the drive)

It is easier than the CF-28... By far... You can swap drives in 3 minutes!

Take out the four screws and pull it part CAREFULLY... Then separate the two halves so you just have the drive encased in foam. You will see the ribbon cable come out from under a plastic flap and kind of fold back on itself. Just pull up the flap (it is secured with sticky tape on both sides) and then you can pull out the hard drive with the heater. CAREFULLY pull the tape back enough to release the heater foil and then pull the connector off the end... Lather, rinse, repeat...

    Well,
Done. with Toughbook providing backup, we got lockdown.
It will be easier next time. I am going to have to get me one of them there 29's. More relaxing then tearing into a brand new 30. :D

That's okay... I haven't torn into my CF-30 either... (Aside from adding a larger hard drive and more RAM) It has everything I was so there was no need.

Yes... If you take apart a CF-28 or CF-29 your fears really go away. I've had both down to the last screw and then put them all back together... It really is fun!
